I haven't used an EILD device/mask etc so this is mostly guesswork.
A problem reported with masks is that flashing lights cause people to wake up. Could this problem be solved if the light of the mask is ON (not flashing) when you go to sleep - so that you get used to the light - and then flickers when you hit REM?
