Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, and somewhat new to lucid dreaming. I learned the basics of lucid dreaming a year or two ago and have had maybe a total of 4 or 5 lucid dreams that I remember but recently I have decided to get back into it.

A few nights ago I experienced something that I thought might be useful for lucid dreaming if it could be artificially recreated. Basically what happened was, it had been raining that night but stopped around 5 or 6 am. I also had my window open, and there was a loud and steady dripping sound, maybe at around 1Hz, from rain water that had accumulated somewhere and was dripping onto the wooden part of my window.

This sound obviously permeated into my subconscious because the two dreams I remembered from that night had a very strong water theme. I also noticed that I wasn't hearing or at least didn't remember hearing the periodic dripping in my dream, instead I saw things like rivers, water parks, and other water related things that didn't sound like what I was actually hearing. This made me believe that it wasn't the sound that I could hear in my dreams, but it was my subconscious mind being reminded every 1 second or so of the idea of water that permeated my dreams.

Normally if its just raining out as normal it doesn't affect the content of my dreams, even if the rain is quite loud. This is probably because rain is a somewhat constant background noise that gets completely filtered out by your subconscious. I think there is some significance to the 1Hz periodicity of the water drops and the silence in between them that doesn't allow your subconscious to filter them out.

The benefit to being able to recreate this is that, if water is a dream sign for you, you would be much more likely to become lucid because water would be more prevalent in your dream. also for people who don't really have a good dream sign, like me, you can use water as one.

Yesterday I created a 25 min or so audio track of water dripping and set an alarm to play it after about 6hrs of sleep, however I didn't remember any of my dreams that night so I don't know if it worked or not. I suspect this could work though and will continue to experiment. If anyone else is interested in this and wants to try it out let me know and I will provide the audio track provided you post your results

Cheers
