      Plain Salvia D. for Dreaming

Note: Okay so I know there are already threads about salvia but I went through most of them and they're either really old or everyone talks about extracts so I wanted to go ahead make a separate post to get peoples' current opinions about the plain leaf.

I have a friend that's growing a Salvia D. plant (legal where I live) and I was thinking about asking him for some dried leaves to enhance my dreams. I've read about it being a great way to produce vivid dreams and possibly help with lucidity. I have absolutely NO interest in the hallucinations and I only want it for dreaming. I've smoked extract before once and didn't enjoy the trip but loved the afterglow affect when it wore off, so I want to just try either smoking or chewing plain leaf for a very mild effect that could possibly enhance my dreams for a few days. I'm not just looking for a quick fix to lucidity either, I plan to do this only after I have gotten fairly comfortable with lucid dreaming, I don't want to feel like I need enhancements to get lucid I just want possibly more vivid and enlightening dreams.

Has anyone had any experience with this specifically (plain leaf, not extracts) enhancing your dreams or lucidity, and if so what is your preferred method? I'd like to get an idea of how much to use for a mild effect but with some benefit at night.

Please no comments about drugs being bad or whatever, this is purely for dreaming purposes and not for tripping, and would only be done on few occasions. Also I'd like to limit the discussion solely to plain leaf experiences and not extracts unless you are talking about how it affected your dreaming.

I can't help since I've only tried extracts (20X) which made me have only a little more vivid dreams. Only once after smoking it made me have 3 lucids that night, so I'm not sure that plain leaf will have noticeable oneirogen effects.

      Good luck

plain leaves will surely have an oneirogenic effect

there have been reports of reliable users in the psychedelic community in the past. i dont know how much you have to chew prior sleeping but i recommend brush your teeth before using it since the menthol in the toothpaste stimulates the blood circulation in your mouth which means the substance will be better absorbed.

try one leaf. if it doesnt work then go up

good luck and keep us updated!

PS: i will also use SD for dreaming. i have ~ 200 g of dried leaves which i will extract in the next few months. i also have a small SD but havent tried its fresh leaves yet!

So I kind of jumped the gun with this and decided to go ahead and try it out to see if there were any effects. I started small last night and only smoked between 0.1-0.2 grams of dried leaf in a bong a couple hours before I went to sleep. The immediate effects were very mild with only some minor pulsing of my visuals for a couple minutes and then a bit of a high for about 10-15 minutes before I was back to normal.

As far as dreams go, I honestly can't tell for sure if it had a major effect on them, but I feel like it probably affected it a little at least. The visuals in my dream seemed more sharp and detailed than usual, and also the dream took on a lot more of a storyline type of feel rather than just bits and pieces of random events, no lucidity though but I haven't had a LD in a while so that's not surprising. I also took melatonin and B6 last night but I've taken it before and it's never had as big of an effect as last night. I'll wait a few days at least to let the SD get out of my system and try again, upping the dose and taking it closer to bedtime. I might even try it during a WBTB if I feel like it won't keep me awake.

i am glad you had the chance to try it out.

      i cant await my turn

before you try it again in the next days let me plz point some things out:

      1) you´d better "stick" a leaf in your cheek pouch and then go sleeping

      2) Salvinorin A (the main active compound) will only last minutes after smoking it. There is absolutly no tolcerance when taken SD. you can consume it daily every hour. You dont have to wait days to be sober again!

      3) dont forget brushing your teeth before using it

      4) maybe you can slit slightly a grid into the leaf to let the juice better flow

      5) good flight and fasten your seat belt

      keep us updated!
      cheers

Hm - interesting - never heard of it in connection to dreaming. I believe it's legal here as well - or at least was ages ago when I tried it. Quite intensely dissociating stuff - so it would makes sense to see a connection to LDs - looking forward to further reports.
As a recreational drug - I didn't quite like it.

Oh wow there's no tolerance? For some reason when I first learned about it someone told me that it was something that if taken too often could lose its effect completely, that's good to know! And I'll definitely try the leaf in my cheek when I go to bed, that sounds like it has much more potential than smoking because of the slow release throughout the night. Hope you get to try it soon too and let us know how it works out for you!

Edit: Also I was wondering though, wouldn't smoking still be effective because it would been in my bloodstream for a bit, or does it not work like that?

Honestly I don't like it as a drug either, when I tried it I had a bad trip and I didn't like the idea of losing control of myself. But I believe the potential for it to aide in dreaming is too good to pass up.

I tried again last night with good results! About 30 minutes before bed I smoked 0.25 grams quickly and had an almost uncomfortable feeling from it, not really much hallucination other than vivid colors and pulsing visuals but it just made me feel anxious for a few minutes. Then right before bed I brushed my teeth and chewed on a whole leaf for a bit, tucked it in between by gums and cheek, and then fell asleep.

I woke up almost exactly an hour and a half later after my first REM period after a short vivid dream, during which there was a moment close to lucidity. I had a thought about dreaming and remembered to be aware, and I was telling myself how dreamlike everything felt, but didn't end up becoming lucid. I chewed the leaf again and switched it to my other cheek.

Then I woke up again about an hour an a half after the first dream, after another vivid dream in which I did get lucid! In the dream I was driving and my car started to float which made me realize that it was a dream. This was followed immediately by a false awakening, but I did a kind of DEILD if you can call it that, where I started to visualize myself being back in the dream outside of my car and practicing moving around, which actually turned into a new dream. This time it felt a bit fake though, like I was just simulating lucidity because in my mind I was just "visualizing", but I think that is still a good result. Something ended up jolting me awake though so it didn't last long.

I kept the leaf in my mouth the rest of the night but I didn't wake again until my last REM period and that dream felt pretty normal, not vivid or any bit of lucidity, and actually a little difficult to recall. I think it really shows how well it works seeing as how my first dreams were more vivid than my last dreams, which doesn't seem to be the usual for most people. The initial effects of the salvia must have worn off halfway through the night and not been as effective during the later dreams. Knowing this I plan to try again eventually, but take it during the last half of the night for maximum effectiveness. Also I want to try either only smoking or chewing the leaf to see which method has the better result. It may be a while before the next time though because I don't have a lot and I want to be sure to practice without supplements so I don't rely on them to obtain lucidity, but it is exciting to know that it really is effective and I'm looking forward to taking it again once I'm better skilled at LDing. I hope someone else who is more skilled at it can try this and let me know their results as well.

Hey ho - keep us posted.
Also if you get any unwanted effects - it's a rather strong (but also for lucidity?) supplement, as supplements go!
Do you have experience with the classics like galantamine and choline and such?

Nah I haven't tried either of those, I have some B6 and melatonin pills from a while back when I first got into LDing so I'm taking those occasionally. I've just been looking into this at the moment since it's pretty much free for me and readily available. I figured some of those pills could be expensive and also mostly wanted to try to stay natural so I don't rely on supplements too much. But I'll look into them, from what I've seen it looks like they'd be good to take anyway since they improve memory and other functions, and maybe if I combine all of the supplements I could have some mind blowing experience.

Take care about it - you should consider making breaks or rotate different schemes or some such to prevent tolerance and diminishing effects - like with most things, I guess.

Oh of course, I don't plan on taking any supplements often, I want to be able to lucid dream naturally without any help, I just think it would be neat to enhance my dreams occasionally. Though I think it is interesting that someone previously said that the Salvia doesn't have any kind of tolerance, which I looked into and it seems other people agree. But either way I still plan on just doing any kind of supplements rarely so that I don't feel like I need them to have lucid dreams. All of these first tryouts were to see if I could notice the effects as of now and see if it really did make a difference and I was very surprised by the results.

      hey Fuzzman

i am very happy about your experience
your report gives us a first-hand-proof that SD is really a powerful ally when it comes to lucid dreaming...

unfortunetely most of the users dont even realize how potent (not only its substance Salvinorin A) this plant really is, how it can revolutionize the art of dreaming. they would use it for a classical trips which can cause problems when not handled wisely. the safest way using it is for dreaming purposes IMO.

if you are interested in this wonderful plant then have a look at Erowid, there you will get most of the best info IMO:
Erowid Salvia Divinorum (Ska Pastora) Vault

there is another thing i want to tell you about this miraculous ally:
when taken the first time a certain dose you will experience a weaker effect. if you take the same dose the next time the effects will be more augmentative. this is because the Kappa-Opiod-Receptor-Activity is intensified with time.
i can remember my first SD experience. i would smoke a dose in a bong but got only a headache and a strange pulling sensation in my body. a while later i smoked the same dose and then the "otherworld" began to open to a certain degree.

this sensitization will go on till it reaches a plateu. while some may have problems with this i personally see a great advantage. with time you need lesser doses - this saves a lot of (extracted) plant material. this means you have then more material to enter the dream world

there are also articles about this phenomenon. i have to search for them, dont know where i found them once. maybe on Erowid?

of course i am following the same path as you. i also want to become a natural lucid dreamer in the near future. SD is an ally which will bring me to the core of consciousness where i can rewrite the software to become lucid every time i fall asleep...

hope i could provide you with enough info

and you Mister, keep on experimenting and report us your improvements

Third time trying it, this time I did it during a WBTB after ~4 hours of sleep. I got up to brush my teeth real quick and then took two fresh leaves with slits cut in them, chewed them a few times, and then stuck them in my cheek and went back to bed. Took me a little while to fall back asleep but I had a dream maybe within an hour after putting the leaves in though it wasn't anything intense, I think the leaves hadn't reached their full potential yet by that point. I did wake briefly and it was easy to recall a few details but I went back to sleep quickly. The next dream was definitely enhanced more than usual and it was really easy to recall details when I woke up, almost like I could feel the transition from dream to waking and the details came rushing at me as soon as I woke up. I had quite a few moments of heightened awareness and nearly became lucid but didn't fully get there. I was thinking about dreaming a lot during it and there were moments where I felt like my brain was trying to give me signals to become lucid but because I'm still too inexperienced I just missed out on the clues.

I think this is definitely the way to go about using salvia and now only intend to do it during WBTB to get the best effects from it. I only tried chewing this time so sometime soon I may try just smoking it during WBTB to see which one has better effects. After that I intend to put a halt on it for a while until I can get more plant material, and use that time to focus solely on my practices without supplements to get better at LDing naturally. I think this will be an amazing supplement for my dreams once I am more experienced, I may even eventually try growing my own plant so I can have a steady supply to enhance my dreams more often.
