Question about supplements

Hi guys,

Last night I took for the first time two supplements to get LDs. These are 5 HTP and Hupèrzine A. I took the first one (50mg) 1 hour before going to sleep. Then 4 hours to sleep and immediately take the Huperzine and going again to sleep.

After that I remember trying to enter into a dream using a ladder but no luck. And I can recall another dream that night. These two experiences were not very vivid at all, not as I would expect from reading about these supplements.

I'm going to double the HTP dose this night to make them more vivid. Am I doing it right, any suggestions?

Okay let's continue, second night

I took 100mg of 5HTP one hour before going to sleep, then four hours and the Huperzine. This time didn't work so well, just one dream and not so vivid...

What did I do differently? Yesterday, before taking the Huperzine I went to the bathroom. Maybe that woke me up a little. Today I'm gonna take the 5HTP just before going to sleep and I'll go to the bathroom again before the Huperzine. Let's see if that helps...

Often Huperzine will be combined with a Choline source (Choline bitartrate/DMAE/Alpha GPC/CDP Choline etc.) I've had good results with the bitartrate.

Make a personal note of why your dreams were not up to the expected level: were you too unconscious to notice the dreams? Did you forget most of the dreams details? Did you not really get to dreaming at all, before having to get up?

The answers to these questions may point you in the direction you need to go, in order to have lucid dreams. Bad dream recall may be addressed via vitamin B6, for example, and lack of awareness could be countered with something to make you more alert (e.g. a small dose of caffeine). Finding the right combination of factors may be quite a scientific ride. :)

Ok I'm third night. This time I took the HTP right before going to sleep. After that I woke up 4 hours later to take the HUP. Same result as yesterday. Just one blurry dream recall.

The last thing I think I can do differently is to stay half an hour awake after the first four hours just as if I was going to do a WBTB.

Thanks for respoding Voldmer, you suggest me to take B6 and caffeine to better my dream recall and make me more alert respectively, but I though that that was the purpose of the supplements I'm taking. Do you mean that they are not enough for the task?

5-HTP is transformed into melatonin, once it gets into the brain, and it works to induce sleepiness. Personally, I have best results when taking it 90 minutes before bedtime. It may be that it is still making you sleepy at WBTB-time - so sleepy, that you're not alert enough for dreaming. Try taking it earlier.

Huperzine A increases the availability of acetylcholine (which is used for communicating between nerve cells), which should increase awareness and mental functioning; it does not have the exact same functions as B6 and caffeine, and therefore these may all improve different aspects of the brains activities. I still would suggest taking a choline source along with the Huperzine (another good one is Lecithin).

Incidentally, I'm not sure that it is a good idea to do Huperzine every day; its half life may be so long that you develop tolerance towards it (meaning: it won't work as well after a while). I suggest giving it a rest for a few days in between using.
