Rhytm napping (saltcube)

Rhytm napping is a technique developed by Matt from the Saltcube site, you can download a special alarm program there to try it yourself.

The idea is to wake you up with certain intervals so you create a state of 'body asleep, mind awake', to get a LD or OBE.

I tried it last night. Went to bed at 0:15, got up at 05:15, back to bed at 05:45 (after having some breakfast, doing some RC's and a little meditation), and played the 5 minute interval series. I used earbuds, not sure why, but it seems to be the norm judging from the saltcube site.

The first few intervals (10-5-10-15) I didn't fall asleep, but I did feel myself almost falling asleep. Right before the 20 minute beep I fell asleep and dreamt about removing cotton from my ears, no lucidity, woke up by the beep.
I can't remember the first 25 interval waking me up, but I woke up naturally before the second.
I dreamt about entering a building to retrieve an object, meeting a guy with a huge futuristic two handed sword, he gave me one too and we battled
, I injured him and he took off, I got the object and went outside to my partner who was waiting for me, I showed the object, it was the remdreamer. No lucidity. 07:35 The end.

Well, that's my first experience with rhytm napping, can't say I'm thrilled about it, but I guess I'll give it another go in a few weeks.

I think the main problem is that I was too awake after WBTB.
Anybody some advice on that? Maybe a shorter period between wake and btb, or a longer? Less sleep before WBTB?

Has anybody else tried this stuff?

It has suggestions for if you fall asleep too fast or too slowly; maybe that would help.

I've tried rhythm napping also yoast with similar results, as I think I was also too awake to fall back asleep.

I think I'll try this again some night when I am falling back to sleep really fast after waking up and see if I get better results, maybe sometime on a weekend when I don't have to get up so early in the morning to go to work.

I learned from the video that I bought from the Salt Cube site that there are a lot of different patterns that can be used for setting the times for the timer to go off so I want to experiment with some different patterns to see if I can find one that will work better.

It's bound to work if a person can find the pattern to set the alarms for that works best for them.

I read the sleep training thing before trying it, so I avoided light when awake, I ate a little ('Special K' cereal, I think it's easy to digest), I was out in the sun, walking around the whole day prior to trying it, so the only thing I can think of to get to sleep faster is indeed a shorter period WBTB.
And I could try the 6 minute series instead of the 5. (I started with 5 instead of 4 because I already thought I would have this problem of not sleeping. Hmmm, maybe a self fulfilling prophecy.)

So that's what I'll be doing the next time I try it. But that probably won't be next weekend but a week later. Hopefully the DVD will have arrived by then.

If you try it again iadr, please post results, it could help my next effort.

I tried it this morning, went to bed really early last night so all conditions were perfect, getting "too much sleep" I mean. Started trying at about 5:00am (after about 7 hrs. sleep) and all that really happened was I woke up too much. That's it. I had already had a couple of remembered dreams from during the night but the rhythm napping produced no results for me, I was using the 4 min. setting and went until about 8:00am so I did give it a chance. I'll try again, I'm not giving up on it, but my first impression is kind of lack-lustre. I think that maybe I'm going to use a kitchen timer set at 90min. intervals for through the night from now on. Seems to me like I was getting my best results (that 5-dream night) when I was getting up frequently to piss.

I tried this again this morning by just using my own times and setting the timer go off after 20 minutes, then 20 minutes, then every 4 minutes, and not only did it wake me up several times, but I had several vivid dreams. I used 20 minutes as the initial time because I wanted to make sure I could get back to sleep.

As I was getting annoyed with the 4 minute interval, I then set it to just go off every 8 minutes which again produced several dreams, one dream in which I was planning to reset the timer up to use a different alarm, one which is more pleasant to listen to. Only problem is that when I finally got up to change the sound of the alarm the one I heard in my dream was not available on the timer.

So....what I am planning to do, unless someone knows of a customizable computer alarm program in which multiple alarms can be set for the same day, and in which a customizable mp3 sound can be used as the alarm, is to just make up several mp3 files with the alarms set to go off at various intervals, which will allow me to select whichever one might be best suited for my sleep state at the time. I downloaded a cuckoo clock sound from the internet that I may try first as it is fairly pleasant to listen to, yet loud enough where it should work with waking up.

This seems like a very promising method, although I think what will make it work even better is if a person does a reality check everytime they are awakened by the sound, and then work on getting their intent up to have a lucid dream by telling themself they are dreaming or that they will become lucid in their dream as they go back to sleep after being woke up.:)

I was trying something a bit different last weekend. I made a mp3 with white noise and me saying 'I'm dreaming' (in Dutch) every five minutes, at a soundlevel with a good chance of waking me up, but not every time. I used the citrus alarmclock program to play it at around 0500 until 0700 (when I wake up).

I tried it twice, and will definitely try it more often. It didn't give me a lucid dream, but it was great for recall (since it woke me up quite a few times), it keeps your mind on dreaming and it's not too annoying, so you can sleep with it playing.

So maybe you could try using a 'I'm dreaming' mp3 for your alarm, as an extra help in this method.

Yes, I use longer intervals to start with because I want to be able to get to sleep before the alarms start going off. And I may just start using longer times altogether because I tend to sleep right through the alarms if they are too close together.

The Citrus alarm clock sounds like it is exactly what I need. Funny thing, I already had it, but didn't realize mutliple alarms could be set for each day until I read your reply. Now that I know how to use it to set multiple alarms, the Citrus Alarm clock should work just fine.

I listen to an mp3 file that I made up that has lucid dreaming suggestions on it in a mans voice, which then switches to a females voice about every 5 minutes with suggestions like "you are dreaming". Although it very rarely gets into my dreams it has gotten into my dreams a few times after which I find myself telling myself that "I am dreaming", and then become lucid, so it can work.:)

my problem is: I CAN'T WAKE UP IN 5 O'CLOCK NO MATTER HOW LOUND THE ALARM IS!!! any suggestion for me?
