      Melatonin is amazing

      I took 3mg melatonin last night, for the first time.

      and i made a post about getting SP, it is in the attaining lucidity forum called "the world is falling"


      My question here is that, how much melatonin is safe to take?
      And how much is needed to get the "nightmare pill" effect?

      and should i take it every night?

      The recommended dose for dreaming is the lowest dose that has an effect.
      Taking it every night is certainly not a good idea, as it may have long term side effects. If you want to use it for dream enhancement than take it occasionally. I would recommend no more than once a week, though I am no expert.

      Melatonin is practically nontoxic and exhibits almost no short-term side effects. No studies have as yet been conducted to determine whether there are any long-term side effects. There are, however, case reports about patients who have taken the supplement for years.

      Ingesting melatonin supplements may cause some unwanted side effects, especially at high doses (~more than 3 mg/day): hormone fluctuations, irritability, increased sleep disturbances including vivid nightmares[2] and reduced blood flow (see below).

      Exogenous melatonin normally does not affect the endogenous melatonin profile, merely advancing the phase of endogenous melatonin production in time if taken at an appropriate time of day.

      In individuals with auto-immune disorders, there is concern that melatonin supplementation may exacerbate symptoms due to stimulation of the immune system.[62]

      Melatonin can cause somnolence, and therefore caution should be shown when driving, operating machinery, etc. When taken several hours before bedtime in accordance with the Phase Response Curve for melatonin in humans, the dosage should be so tiny as to not cause tiredness/sleepiness.

      Individuals who experience orthostatic intolerance, a cardiovascular condition that results in reduced blood pressure and blood flow to the brain when a person stands, may experience a worsening of symptoms when taking melatonin supplements, a study at Penn State College of Medicine's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center suggests. Melatonin can exacerbate the symptoms by reducing nerve activity in those who experience the condition, the study found.[63]

      The bottle says take one 3mg pill every night, if you are using it as a sleep aid.

      Yes, but this is for people who have trouble falling asleep.
      Rule of thumb: for dream work or recreational purposes of supplements that are known to cause side effects, never exceed the therapeutic dose and frequency of use, or you put yourself at risk.

      In any case, any dream supplement which is used too frequently will become ineffective dew to tolerance.

      About 30-45 mins?

      Not long. I took it on a almost empty stomach, and it went to work very fast.
      I was tired and went to sleep.

      Hey, I take melatonin every single night because I have insomnia. Is it dangerous for me to start attempting lucid dreams? I have only had two lucid dreams before that only lasted 30 seconds because I was too excited but those two were really just from realizing I was dreaming however I had read about lucid dreaming before those two.
      I'm hoping to start attempting these lucid dreams seriously now, of course I'm going to take it easy with them. But I'm very concerned as to whether attempting lucid dreams whilst taking melatonin every single night could be dangerous. Also, does insomnia prevent lucid dreams?
      Thanks, I'm really excited to start but I want to clear things up first.
