Once studies have been conducted we can establish if it is really an effective technique.

I've been following this thread since it started, and from what i've seen, no one is starting conflict but you (for example with the bold section of the above quote). That seems like a completely hypocritical thing to say considering your own refusal to discuss age since it is supposedly completely irrelevant, and a high school education is an age dependent thing.

No one is harassing your method. It's just apparent that there are flaws in your method, at least very likely so. If you post something here for discussion, you can't expect everyone to blindly follow it. I, for one, do not want to eat a shitload of sugar every night before bed if it can be shown that any increase in LDs was simply placebo.

If we have questions, we will ask them; and when you get defensive like this, it only reinforces the assumption that this is a flawed method. If you won't answer simple questions, why should anyone follow your method?

Yes, we understand that you didn't do rigorous scientific testing... but to claim that the minor testing you did do proves anything does not help your point... if anything, it only open the door for further, more controlled, testing.

If you didn't want to perform scientific experiments, then why did you gather 10 people and perform the test as you did? It seems like you went halfway there and then jumped on the fact that some people had lucid dreams to draw the conclusions you wanted to hear: that you discovered a new method of inducing lucid dreams that you could slap your own name on. I still fail to see what sugar has to do with sleep paralysis whatsoever. The sugar would not induce sleep paralysis, it would only keep a person more aware while sleep paralysis set in. It may even be counterproductive.

If this "test" is to be valid at all, you do need to perform more experiments, with stricter control, otherwise everything could be attributed to placebo or random anomaly.

Or maybe you are on to something. Who knows? But you certainly aren't helping your case defending it in the manner you do.

If no one was interested in this in the least, we would not be asking for clarification or further testing. The fact that people responded at all means they are interested, yet you are not open to discussion on the topic, in which case, why post in a public forum at all?

It may actually work, but not because it gives you energy to get into SP quicker, which makes no sense at all.

Suger is a stimulant. Lots of posters take about taking caffine before WILDing. Sugar may also have a similar effect.

Personally to me It comes across like you are trying to promote a method you've thought up without being willing to put in the geunine research, and without really being interested in helping the dreamviews community understand why exactly you are so convinced it works. 10 people following your instructions does not make for convincing research.

Oh, and just as a side note, to give you the benifit of the doubt, I tried your method last night, Without any success at all. I may ask 10 friends to try it too and see what results they have, If it dosn't work for all of them, would that be conclusive evidence that your method dosn't work? (do you see the point im trying to make here).

Anyway, I understand your tension about the whole age thing, I decided I had to find out because I like to know where the person I'm discussing with is coming from, and found one of your posts where you mention being in school so I guess you're still in your mid teens. It's not a bad thing obviously, but i'm in my 30s and I am probably approaching this with a completely different way of thinking than yourself.

I also think that the way you have this "method" (that you came up with) in your signature and that you are posting in topics about "how you love this method" is slightly telling about your motives. Such as this...

Hey shift. What does DV protocol mean by Scientific evidence.
Seems to me that, in the context of this site, this has to be broadly based on anecdotal evidence and personal experience.

Well, the basic methods (DILD, WILD, MILD, etc.) have been thoroughly tested by Stephen LaBerge. Of course, discussion of our personal experiences is going to be anecdotal, but I think what Shift is trying to say is that if someone wants to go around spouting off their own "-ILDs" or the like, there need to be a bit more formal reserach behind it. Of course, this will still be based on personal experience, but it should be gathered and analyzed in a somewhat systematic fashion.

...but I'm sure Shift can give you a better answer than I. :D

Hence where scientific training comes in handy ;) And yes, basing things on anecdotal evidence and personal experience is why we have so much confusion and false information floating around. Yes, some good does come from it, but so do some negative aspects. Which is why anecdotes and opinions should be expressed as such, rather than stated as fact.

A good study... I won't even be able to list all the factors... honestly specific methods and protocol depend on the experiment, the type, the participants, etc. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ead.php?t=6881 Should be adhered to. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_control and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experimental_control have some very basics. If you want to learn how to conduct an experiment, you can pick up a book on research methods and statistical analysis or if you have an experiment in mind, you can PM it to the staff and discuss in the research section with those who know what they're doing. This brings in the peer-reviewed aspect, where a group of people highly educated in science can critique one another and ensure that a study is legit. Of course we run into problems, all being anonymous people on the internet with no guarantee of a degree and credit to our username, so yea I would take any 'research' conducted on here with a grain of salt. On the same hand, people who are going through such effort to research, organize, recruit, conduct, etc. etc. are probably going to be alright- and they are going to be infinitely better off than people who just spout bs.

I can understand the sugar aspect, because you figure sugar to an extent increases alertness. So, if you are falling asleep with increased awareness of your surroundings, you may be able to maintain consciousness.

As for the music, I think that that would help because it gives you an anchor to the waking world around you.

You can say that Switch, but its highly doubtful whether the dream views collective (however its organised) tests theories under laboratory conditions before publishing tutorials.

So it must come down to a body of knowledge based on what information is avaliable (Like Laberges research), anecdotal evidence (or in science speak: observations), and ultimately a majority consesus.
