About 7 seconds of lucidity (my first real lucid experience)

Here's a bit of background leading up to this particular dream...

It seemed I was starting to remember my dreams less and less since I stopped my dream journal although I'd have a vivid one every now and then. Recently I've been able to remember dreams a lot more often, although I don't try too hard, but they've been really vivid and often.

It seemed that every now and then I would get to be in a state where RIGHT before I would open my eyes to wake up (like 1-2 seconds before) I would look around and think "Oh I'm dreaming and now I'm waking up" and everything would fade out and I'd open my eyes.

It's happened quite a few times and I've never tried to get it to last because I wasn't absolutely lucid enough to consciously do anything about it. But then last night happened:

I was having a really weird dream where I was at a New Years dance, in I place I'm quite sure I contructed out of my imagination, with a bunch of friends of mine and everyone was having a grand old time, when classical music suddenly came on and everything just died down. (FYI I do love classical music but not at a dance party xD) I went to where the DJ was and found that it was my grandfather playing the music. I could go on for a while here but I'll keep it short; I ended up having to save the day and failing and I woke up at around 3 in the morning, and promptly rolled around for a little bit and fell asleep.

I entered a new dream that involved cruising around on an empty highway with a guy I just recently got aquainted with, and we ended up splitting up and everything turning into a waterslide. My memory is blurry here but I remember going around a crazy path passing by I think a fire truck and some sort of disaster... I don't know.

Anyway I found myself at the base of one of the slides on a black marble surface, in front of this young woman I had met at my sister's college a few weeks back. I spontaneously realized that I was dreaming when I was looking her in the eye, and looked around for a second. I believe she was saying something before I became lucid but when I did I said something along the lines of "Wow I'm dreaming right now" and she stopped talking and just stared at me. At this point I was in absolute lucidity, but like I had with the other somewhat lucid experience I began to think sullenly "well, this is where I wake up now" and while I was still in the dream I became aware of my real life body and slowly switched visions to my normal waking vision and woke up.

It was really inspiring for me to try and start lucid dreaming. I have faith now that I've actually done it, and now that I've found such a great site/forum that I can start to lucid dream on a regular basis. You'll see me all over these forums once I get some more free time.

Let me know what you guys think about this experience, and if you'd had anything similar with the right before waking semi lucidity happen to you.

*OH YEAH!! I forgot to mention, I had my headphones connected to my computer with an mp3 of my voice looping part of a script I'm trying to memorize for this job I just landed. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I had it on until I fell back asleep at 3. When I woke up I took them off.

I've had bland lucidity before waking a few times. It's kind of annoying, really. It usually starts out with me looking at my hands or just realizing I'm dreaming, and then (the last two times,) it transitioned into a really weird FA lucid nightmare that I have to wake myself up from. Not fun!

Bleh that sounds terrible :( What kind of FA nightmares have you had? My lucidities before waking seem to happen when I'm looking at people. I havn't had an FA for a long time though. And I havn't had a nightmare for years now.

The first wasn't to bad; I kind of pussied out. The dream before was alright I suppose, it started out non lucid. To get the gist of it, I was in a city with my family and we took shelter in a building because it was raining and windy to the point it seemed like a hurricane. Its a very large building and we were in a small hall, with some stairs behind us. We go down the stairs and not far below us there is a very large theater. It was a stereotypical theater, with the red seats and walls. I'm yet to have a good dream about a theater. I found a briefcase, and for some reason opened it up. It had eating utensils in it, and red velvet backing. I was confused by this in the dream, and said, "Well this is a weird dream." This sent me on a 1-2 second blast of realization that hit me like a brick wall, and the dream ceased. Stuff flickered by. About 2 things to be specific. A carrot and this (disturbing) clay doll. The clay doll gave me a strange feeling of dread for no apparent reason. I think this is what caused the FA to turn into a nightmare so quickly. The images I just mentioned only lasted a brief moment; and then I was in the FA.

I "woke" lucid into the FA aware, and I moved very slow. It was dead silent and my room was really vivid and accurate, with barely anything out of place. It was dramatically lit though. One window had the blinds open and one had the blinds closed. The one with the blinds open let in a yellow, morning light. It was eerie. I'm almost out of the bed, when I hear a noise that sounds like a car engine that is having trouble to start. I purposely disrupt the dream by breathing heavy.

Like I said, that one wasn't so terrible. Anyway I seem to have been long winded so I wont bother going into detail about the other one.

Cool, ya know my first lucid was yesterday and I'm really happy. Not so much about the dream but more about the fact that I had a lucid dream, since I started LDing. I feel like I've make a major step in my LDing process. Myne was suprisingly long, seemed like 30 seconds to a minuite. It took me 5-6 weeks but I've finally done it. I wasn't very lucid at all though, On a scale of
1-10 (1 is lowest level of lucidity, 10 is highest level of lucidity) I'd say a 1. It was vivid but I didn't have very much control. But I'm sure if I have a few more I'll get better. What would you give yours? 1, 3, etc.

Mathias, Being new to Lucid Dreaming, I think there is something you should be very very aware of. A few people here mentioned it but never explained how it relates to you. See, In Lucid Dreams, our expectations very very strongly affect what happens next and if we expect to wake up, we wake up, right? Wrong. 9 out of 10 times, when we expect to wake up, and wake up.. WE ARE STILL DREAMING... This is good for you to know because from now on when you wake up.. Do a reality check to confirm that you really did just wake up.. it will feel very real and you may be 100 percent convinced you are awake, but chances are you are not.. do a reality check, and if you are still Lucid, then go on enjoying your dream instead of letting it go due to a false awakening... THESE ARE VERY COMMON.. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING TO WAKE UP.. be aware, and double check... welcome to the forum and I look forward to hearing more from you!

Oh wow, your dream sounds pretty narley, I'd be kinda freaked out by a doll too. They are pretty creepy. But you just reminded me of a dream I wrote a while ago in my dream journal! Here it is, (I've lost track of my journal so this is from memory)

This is one of those "why the HELL didn't I become lucid for this?!" dreams
I was having a picnic with my original family before the divorce and my sister going off to college etc. We were sitting on a hill with green grass, but there were no trees, no park around us. We were right in the middle of a big New York like city. I don't remember any dialogue but we were sitting there when suddenly the earth started to shake and dark clouds started to form. We all stood up and watched as random DCs starting running around scared, and tornadoes started to form from the dark clouds. Notice the plural. Each tornado (there were more than a dozen) was around 12-20 feet tall, going in a bunch of directions, causing a ruckus and throwing debris everywhere as you would expect a bunch of tornadoes to do.

This is where it got really weird. By this time my family had ran away and I was just standing there in awe. I got a good look at the tornadoes and noticed that each of them had faces. Remember Taz from Looney Toons? It was like that except it it had a mouth, angry, and it somehow looked real. I don't know how, but they did. At this point I'm just shocked, and I look around to see a tornado approaching Andy from the TV show "Weeds". I'm worried about him as he stands there nonchalant as it approaches, but then right as it gets to him he leans into it, opens his mouth wide like the Mummy did when he spit out the locusts, and just swallowed the tornado, WHOLE.

Yeah.

So I look around, see one coming my way, and I figure "Hell, if he can do it so can I" and eat it right up. The taste... I could only describe it as tasting like everything I've ever eaten in one mouthful. Imagine that. It really was a shocking dream. That must have caused a scene change because all I remember after that was walking around and hiding out in this broken down shack with my friend and Dwayne Johnson during what looked like a post apocalypse snow ridden world.

So yeah, I thought I'd share that with you :]

Very nice, you should be proud of yourself :^D You did it on purpose AND it lasted for a good little while. Even if it was semi lucid, you've gotten over the first hump. On a scale of one to 10 for me? I'd say I was about 9. I was really aware that I was dreaming but I didn't see it coming at all, so I didn't have much time to react.

Thanks very much for the advice. I've read a few DJ entries here and notice that people do RC when they wake up. This really is a great idea, thanks for suggesting it to me specifically or I probably wouldn't think to do one when I wake, or think I wake. Some good ones would be breathing through a blocked nose, levitating off the bed, and finger pushing, right? Nothing too big?
