Had a very weird, SCARY lucid dream?

Well I have had many LDs, certainly too many to count. Most of them have been what you would consider 'scary'. Lots of end of the world scenarios, running from demons, etc. But these are far from nightmarish because a) I have a lot of control and b) I can wake myself up if I do lose control.

Well a few nights ago I had a very weird experience, and it had nothing to do with the usual content of my dreams. But was really freaked me out was I had absolutely no control, I was completely aware of the fact that I was dreaming, and I could not wake myself up. That has never happened me before. In the dream, I was locked in my bedroom closet and sitting on the floor. I could not see anything because it was completely dark but I felt around with my hands and figured out that it was my bedroom closet. Then I was suddenly aware that I was not alone. I could hear someone in the closet with me breathing heavily. Very creepy. I reached out with my hands and felt a man sitting in front of me. He did not say anything and I was too scared to speak, so we just sat there. It was terrifying. I had absolutely no control and I could not wake myself up, something I can normally do at any time. It felt like I sat there for more then a half hour. :undecided:

Any thoughts on why I lost complete control? Or why I couldn't wake myself up? I was honestly scared to go to sleep last night, thinking something similar might happen again. But it was back to normal LDs for me, with control and all.

There's going to be times in your LDing endeavors when you become lucid in a dream where you have poor/no control. In your case, I'm guessing this was a "nightmare" compared to your other ones. Lots of times when nightmares happen you don't have control, even if you're aware that you're dreaming. That's my take on it.

Well, control requires a certain cool confidence, something easily overpowered by fear.

Hi, Slumberless. I recently had my first Lucid Dream. I was scared as heck! I was just siting on the chair and did a Nose RC and found out I was Dreaming. I said," Yes!" but things started to get scary. I saw a shadow of my worst fear: The Metal Worm. I was so scared that I could not move. Maybe the same thing happened to you? Anyway, I hope me and you don't have to suffer something so terrifying again. Happy Dreaming!!! :)
