Actions/Thoughts that Kill Dreams?

Alright, so this is my situation: I've had about 27 lucid dreams, and about 80-90% of them have ended almost instantly. However, I feel confident that I've already gotten the part about staying calm. This morning I had a lucid dream that led to a theory about my problem.
For quite a while now, I've been greatly interested in possessing someone in a dream. I managed it just once before, and it was so cool that I had to do it again. Anyway, most all of my lucid dreams since Christmas have been very short. They also have all began with me trying to possess someone.
Last night I forgot about possessing someone for a while in my dream, and I ended up flying around a town a little. I then went over to a bathroom and remembered about possession as someone came out. I followed them for a while, but then they ran away from me. At this point I decided to summon someone to possess. I closed my eyes and shouted, "Summon (and then the person's name, which I won't reveal)." I failed to summon the person, but just seconds after trying the dream ended.
So this is what I'm thinking: can trying to possess or summon someone end my lucid dreams prematurely? Do I need to spend extended periods of time stabilizing before even trying? Help and advice would be much appreciated!

I have a similar problem. More often than not if I try to do anything too "powerful" the dream will start falling apart. I've yet to come up with any particular solution for it, however, simply going with the flow of the dream usually works. And stabilization is always a good start.

Perhaps try stabilizing, and slowly trying to build the intensity of your abilities throughout the LD. Maybe some telekinesis, summoning, scene alteration, etc.

So I should do something like this...?
1) Stabilize.
2) Start with something simple, like changing minor details of your surroundings.
3) Continue with more intense things, perhaps flight.
4) Stabilize again.
5) Attempt a possession or summoning.

I could probably work with this. Anyone else who's reading this thread, what else can be done?

The only I could add is that the mind doens't like it that much when forced to do things, especially something "powerfull" as FORCING someone or something to do something.
If you still want to do it (and I know you want to xD) try something different, like imagine that you have a device or some thingy with which you can make someone do anything you want, just so your mind doesn't need to just do it, but has some excuse (the device). And perhaps if you get familiar with that, you could always go on without the device :)

I have thought about ways you could trick the mind like that before. I think that you should associate powers with things that your mind is familiar with.
For instance, let's say you're addicted to the New Super Mario Bros. and you want to grow really huge in a dream. You could probably eat a Mega Mushroom and see results. Thanks; I'll try that. Now I just need to think of something that I associate with possession...I think I've got something. :cheeky:

As fun as possessing someone or summoning someone can be, sometimes it's way more pleasant of an experience to calm yourself and observe your dream passively, realizing the beauty of your own mind's creation. talking to people, watching people. It seems boring, but these LD's usually last way longer and are WAY more vivid then those where one attempts to do something intense or significant. Try just thinking of a place you want to go and start walking, (or flying if you can control yourself) there.

Maybe I could try doing simple things like this for my next ten lucid dreams or so, then progressively advance into the impossible. This discussion has shed some light for me: I think that I'm rushing myself. I never really had a foundation to go from, so I just need to make one. Thanks!

You won't regret it. Quality will outdue intensity, once you experience both of them. I usually get angry at myself when I do something crazy or over-the-top cuz it always kills my LD's. I just love being there. Living in that moment.

If you are not confident with lucid dreaming (much like I am) than, you will have problems having an LD for a long time. Once you're there, don't get too excited. Try to stay calm and remember your goals. Thinking you can't do something, or time will be very slim will increase the chances of your dreams ending instantly.

Take things slowly and let the dream play out. Don't rush into things and just go with the flow, when you start creating objects or transforming you start to lose more control of the dream. When you realize you are dreaming start off walking down a road taking everything in. Then you can begin to run and if you want eventually start flying. As you take more in the better control you will have within the dream.

Yeah like others have said, and what I've been told, is to make sure you take a little time stabablizing.do some hand rubbing and maybe grab the closest thing and touch, smell, and taste it if yoi can. This way you get your senses involved. After this I'd say go ahead and start doing stuff. Also, you might be waking up because its the end of your REM cycle. That's what I believe happens to me sometimes.

If that's the case, then 3/4 of my lucid dreams are at the end of REM. No offense, but I think I'm the one doing the waking.

Yeah I'm just speaking from my experience.

Lately I've been reading Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, and today I found a direct reference to possession of dream characters in it. This was what it said:

"Some people will probably feel that life as a disembodied spark leaves something to be desired. If so, never fear, there are plenty of vacant dream bodies available for immediate occupancy. Tholey describes a combination procedure called the image-ego-point technique which differs from the no body technique in only one way: you must also concentrate on hypnagogic imagery. He elaborates: 'If a visual dream scenery has become established, then it is possible to travel into this scenery. The ego-point can under certain circumstances enter into the body of another dream figure and take over its "motor system."'"

This came from a exercise on the "No Body Technique," where you must enter the dream as a single point of existence by leaving your physical body behind entirely. I plan on using this technique to enter a lucid dream, and as the spark of existence, possess a dream character. If anyone wants to know how to use the No Body Technique, I can post it here.

I possessed a dc once it was pretty cool. I just focused on them and went into their body.

So...you just kinda stared at them? That seems way too simple...
It's strange that the only time I made a successful possession was when I possessed a bug on my nightstand...don't ask me why, because I don't know either.

when i read that dmt is the cause of dreaming, soon as i got lucid once- i said to my self ok right now my brain is flooded with dmt, so i wanna trip...
soon as i thought this, dream faded but i was still conscious and thinking to my self wtf....

When you are lucid in a dream do not think about physical reality at all. only focus on the dream, but be aware that the reality you are in is the dream reality.
