Hmmm.. It might make sense to you in the dream, but when you think about it in real life it could be complete rubbish. I think it would only truly work for something like a painting or music, but nothing like how to build a cold fusion reactor using only household materials. :cheeky:
Its definitly possible and there have been people doing it for thosands of years and not only through lucid dreaming. The Greek used to do stuff like this with dream incubation and there are lots of lucid dreamers who try and come up with ideas while dreaming. I guess it is possible to get some random stuff that doesnt make any sense after you wake up but I dont think that would happen to often. I program video games in my spare time and sometimes I will have a dream that I am playing a new video game and after I wake up I think, hey that would actualy make a fun game.
Obviously, creative things are easier to bring back with you, but invention via dream works. In fact, the structure of DNA was discovered via dream. List of dreams - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Benzen structure and the needle of a sowing machine was discovered in a dream.
There was a show on the discovery channel (I think it was part of the human body: pushing the limits series) there was an interview with a dude working for NASA who came up with a brilliant idea for some kind of space-ship in a dream. I think that the video is available on youtube.
