      Obligatory First LD Thread!

Funny story about me; I made an account here in February of 2009, and I actually never had a lucid dream! I tried for a month or so, but something was simply clouding my ability to do so. In all honesty, I think I was stopping myself from it because I didn't believe that I could do it, for whatever reason.

Anyway, I decided to hop on back over to Dreamviews two days ago while I have a summer left to see if I could start getting some lucid dreams.

Anyway, you can check out my journal entry for July 6th if you'd like the best of detail I can offer, but I can sum up the actual lucid area for this thread.

Basically I tried a WBTB method I read on the forum last night. At first I went into a non-lucid dream, but after a bit I happened to return to the thought that I was dreaming.

Suddenly, I was shown a window which contained the image of a gun being held in first person. I struggled and struggled to pull this window closer to me. I was well lucid at this point, trying desperately and thinking actively about how I needed to get into the dream before me.

After quite a bit of struggling, I managed to somehow break the seam between the black limbo I seemed to be in, and slam into the dream world. The resounding effect of the sound and the visuals booming into place created a rather earthquake sort of feel.

Suddenly everything took on an almost hyper-realistic feel. It was a very nice feeling as well. I can already imagine what kinds of things could be experienced with the ability to maintain the grounding in such a place.

Sure, it ended quickly (I woke up as soon as I fired the gun because it was so loud it startled me back the real world) but that's nothing a little practice and experience wouldn't solve.

It's not an 'official' WBTB method, just one I read on here the other day. I labeled as WBTB unofficially, as it seems that's what it's grounded upon.

With that out of the way, I read that fellow on here liked to go to sleep and when he woke up, picture himself running from his back-yard to his front yard. Your mind slowly turns this into a dream as you're still quite tired, and usually by the time you reach your front yard, you're already lucid dreaming, according to him.

I actually ran from my back-yard, hopped my neighbor's fence to his yard, and then ran down the field before I was fully asleep again.

      Inspiring, Congratulations.

Could you link to the thread that has the WBTB technique you had success with?

      Is this the technique?:

I guess for whatever reason this thread stuck with me in the morning, but this is the one I'm referring to.

      I H8 Reality's VILD Technique

I tried it again this morning with significantly less success, however. There's an obvious fact that you have to do this during a brief awakening; I think I just got lucky having done it during my first major awakening of the day. This morning when I woke up I was so uncomfortable that it was impossible for me to fall back asleep no matter how vividly I could imagine the scene.

For some reason I believe I saw a group of soldiers standing on a dirt road, though. It was only for a split second when I was trying to fall back asleep. I think I started to make a pass into the right direction, but quickly woke up. I wonder what it is with me and the military, here lately.
