      First Lucid Dream

This was a few nights ago, so I don't remember every aspect of the dream, But I do remember the part I took control of the dream. Just so you know, my dreams sometimes transport me to other locations without me noticing.

Me and my grandma were walking (in real life, my grandma can't walk great distances because she has COPD) alongside this other town's pond/reservoir when a spotted a woman in the distance following us. We were then on my house's street walking up to our house because the woman following us looked suspicious. My home is nowhere near the actual reservoir, by the way. So when we got up to the door, I noticed the woman, who was now standing on the other side of my front lawn, had a knife in her hand. I thought to myself "Oh my god, she's gonna kill us." Then I realized at that moment, "Wait a minute, this a is a dream. You can take control! FLY!" And I leaped up and floated in the air. Now, I didn't have full control over my flight, I was having trouble flying in a straight line. () I had to keep reminding myself to concentrate and it was a dream and I could do whatever I wanted and I had to go after this woman to show her she had no power over me. I flew straighter and straighter after her. Even though she was just across the yard, it seemed like minutes to get there while out of control. When I sped after her and chased her across other neighbor's yards, I tackled her to the ground. That's when I woke up.

Now, I usually can't get to sleep without hearing some type of noise, so I leave my TV on at night and put a DVD on repeat. That night I had Inception on my TV. Think maybe that had something to do with it?

It's very likely. You were thinking (consciously or otherwise) about lucid dreaming before and during the process of falling asleep, after all. However, please do not make the mistake of thinking that you will always need this movie to become lucid. With practice, you should be able to do it on your own, just by focusing on your desire to do so as you fall asleep.
Short-term lucid goals: [X] Move an object with my mind [ ] Create a portal and use it to get to a dream scene of my choice [ ] Meet one of my book characters

Long-term lucid goals: [ ] Visit the Dream World Academy [ ] Make a building appear at will [ ] Change my appearance to disguise myself as someone else [ ] Find the end of a rainbow

I wasn't even trying to lucid dream on purpose, but ever since then I have been trying! No, I haven't watched Inception since then, lol. The most recent movie I had on at night was Die Hard 4.

That's a little like the experiences that led me to become a lucid dreamer: I watched Inception, fell in love with the concept and the movie-verse, and secretly began to want to have lucid dreams. A month passed, during which I wrote some fanfic. Then I started keeping a written dream journal. Another month passed. Then I became lucid in a dream, without having purposely intended to, and tried to control the environment in it. I was absolutely elated. Ever since then, I have been trying to lucid dream on purpose.
