how real is a lucid dream

i have had one lucid and around two semi lucids and they all seemed like a dream, my semi lucids are wilds where as i wake up i go back to sleep and think on how my next dream will be then i loose consciousness and that world builds up then i regain consciousness but it was as if i was thinking all the time but i know i was dreaming because of things that happen that i didnt will and i get that dream feeling , in the full lucid one i even was observing how false everything was . can you tell me how real yours was like , was it rel as now as you are reading this , give me all details that make me understand how real yours was

My first one was pretty vivid but it i could tell it was a dream. It didnt feel extremely real. My second was incredibly fuzzy.

It can get as real as waking life and sometimes even more than that, some people become hyper observant and absorb a ton of details.
You may have also forgotten something so the dream feels hazy.

They vary greatly from a glorified daydream to experiences so vivid it is hard to describe.

I think how deep one's sleep is has something to do with it. When I have already slept for a long time (9 hours or so) any lucid dreams will be of low quality in terms of vividness. Dreams after 4 hours of sleep will be much more concrete.

To give you an idea of how real they can be: there have been dreams where, although I was perfectly aware I was dreaming, I was still reluctant to do certain things like jump off a high cliff or fondle a woman because the clarity was that close to waking life.

However the dream reality behaves differently, so even though it may be incredibly vivid, it often won't be a perfect copy of waking life. Senses may not be there until you look for them, surroundings frequently change, physics don't behave as they normally do. For instance I can jump off a high building but feel no impact when I hit the ground; I can look at a scene, turn away, and when I look back there is something else there.

To increase vividness it is very helpful to solidify your connection to the dreambody. Many hazy lucid dreams are do to the fact that part of you consciousness is connected to your waking body, so the dream becomes something like a virtual day dream. By focusing on the body you have within the dream, you will draw your attention more into the dream and your surroundings should clarify and sharpen. Feel your body, see what you are wearing, touch the ground beneath you. From there focus on your other senses. Pick out details with out eyes, listen for sounds with your ears. At this point the dream should have solidified and you can go and do whatever you want to do. Focusing on the dreambody is also a good way to prevent yourself from waking up when you sense things beginning to fade.

First lucid I got wasn't exactly reallike, the reason I became lucid was because I noticed a toilet hanging midair, with only the water inside of it. No white toilet, just the water and the pipes leading it away. Guess that was a small mistake my brain made :)

"What is real? If your talking about what you can see, smell, taste, and touch, then real is only electrical signals interpreted by your brain" matrix. Dreams can be as or more real then physical waking life. Namaste.

Most of my lucids are shockingly realistic. i say lucid's because my none-lucids im not thinking "wow this isnt real but it feels real" if you get me.

Yeah, I've wondered the exact same thing. My usual non-lucid dreams (at least, as I remember them) are pretty fuzzy, and don't have too much detail. it's more like I know something is there or something is happening, rather than it actually being there/happening. I really hope I can get that kind of clarity.

My dreams tend to tip the scales at around a 7/10 on realism, with touch and sight being the most realistic. If I closely observe something, like a flower (below), it can become hyper-real and it will even be more detailed than waking life - it might still act unrealistically, but the details make you think it's real. I've touched bricks and textured objects that felt incredibly real. It all depends on how you view the dream; if you expect things to seem dreamlike because you're in a dream, they probably will be.

Recall can also play a large part in how clear, and possibly realistic, your dreams are. So eat/drink food with vitamin B6 in them. :)

Well, it's been known to improve how well you can remember your dreams, as well as the vividness of them.

This is not an article on how to increase vividness in a lucid dream. That’ll come later. This is an article on how to generally have more vivid dreams, lucid or not. You haven’t experienced anything until you’ve experienced a truly vivid dream.

How to get more vivid dreams: Vitamin B6, AKA Pyridoxine. But that’s not the full answer.
Vitamin B6 is part of the Vitamin B complex. It’s important for brain and nerve function. It also helps the body break down proteins (namely glucose) and promotes red blood cell production. For normal function, you need about 1.3mg of Vitamin B6 every day, and you usually get that much through the foods that you eat.

For a great vivid dream, you should take about 250mg of Vitamin B6. You can find a bunch of B6 and B complex suppliments at pharmacies, nutrition stores, any place you can get vitamins.
I don’t want suppliments, what foods have B6? Bananas, oranges, fish, liver, beans, nuts, eggs, chicken, carrots, spinach, and other healthy foods like that.
Any bad news? Yes. At a repeated dose of 200mg, you start not to feel so good — tingling in the hands and feet, loss of sensation in the legs, some other bad stuff…
What? You said i need 250mg? Yes, you do. Or you could skip that advice, and i’ll tell you the REAL reason Vitamin B6 works.

Tryptophan.

Tryptophan is an amino acid taken by Vitamin B6 and converted into Serotonin. Serotonin can cause extremely vivid dreams at higher levels. So the reason such a high dose of B6 is recommended for vivid dreams is that it’ll convert more tryptophan into more serotonin. But why don’t we help the process and just add in the middle man?

Why not just cut out the middle man and take Serotonin suppliments? Three words: Blood Brain Barrier. It’s a pesky thing that won’t just let things into the brain directly. Instead, Vitamin B6 and Tryptophan can be metabolized in the body and sent to the brain no problemo.

Tryptophan is found in such foods as cheddar cheese, chicken, salmon, lamb, egg, flour, white rice, and milk. Cheddar cheese has the most amount of tryptophan, and is recommended highly.

So what do I do?
You have two options: foods or suppliments. For Vitamin B6, you should get some suppliments that will provide you with about 100mg of B6 (much less than 250mg, and not dangerous!). You’re going to have a hard time eating enough oranges to get that much. Take it about an hour or two before bed. For tryptophan, you should eat some cheddar cheese (or the other foods listed) a few hours before bed, around when you’re about to take the B6.

If you’re not willing to just go out and buy suppliments, then i have advice for you. Eat a banana or two, and then sprinkle a good amount of cheddar cheese on something. Not on the banana, unless that’s your thing, it’s not really mine. Do this about an hour before bed. The next day, i’ll be surprised if I don’t see you running to your car still pulling your shirt over your head in such a hurry to get to the store.

Well I would argue that relative to you they're are just as real as waking life. Sure they feel different, maybe a little less coherent sometimes. But based upon what I have learned and experienced in the past few years, I believe reality is nothing more than a conscious reflection of your own consciousness. In other words, reality is consciousness. What really blows my mind is that based on upon observations from Quantum Mechanics... whenever you are conscious in a dream, relative to you from within the dream- waking reality and your physical body do not exist. IMO you are just a spirit experiencing a field of consciousness.

My first lucid a month ago was extremely realistic like my waking life kinda detail. The first thing I noticed (which triggered my lucid) was the way writing was warping. It started in my friends house and I sat an observed the detail and remained calm. It was only when I went outside onto the street I know from my waking life that I realized that it's not 100% exact. The houses had more contrast to them and were 4 stories high instead of 2, cars were a lot more colorful :shadewink:

My dreams are very realistic and vivid, I hardly ever try to fly or shoot fireballs. I enjoy the alternate reality. the details in my dreams can be just like real life. My dreaming is taking its toll on my life though, its messing with my memory, i will remember something from a dream and think it was real, or disregard something real for memory of a dream, and it makes me very late. Ive lost many jobs cause of sleeping in. The addiction is bad but it just goes to show how real my dreams feel.

First time I'm telling about my lucid dream, so hello to everyone here :)

I had several lucid dreams, though I can't pinpoint what makes me realised it's a dream. One thing i realised today is that lucid dreams could be a great scientific instrument to explore how human mind's working. In today's lucid, I've made several observations and I would like to know someone's else opinion.

1) The illusion feels near damn perfect. I was able to feel the different tastes of food I was chewing on in my lucid.
2) I was able to remember common things from my life but not specific things. I.e. i remembered my cell phone, how it looks and how it works. But i did not remember i hadn't set alarm clock (which i do, most of the time) and was afraid of waking up.
3) Seems like it's possible to forget your "i'm dreaming" remark when you try to do something complicated - in my case, launch a DVD movie (which involved chosing one and so). My theory is that, while dreaming, one's mind can only focus on one thing - when you're trying to think "too much", you lose whatever you were focusing on before. But I'd like to know what's other people experience here.
4) My ability to recall a dream seems much better with concious part than unconcious, even though it was a one, continuous dream.

AFAIK

Full blown lucids are AS REAL as the 'real world'.

Normal dreams has been ok, but not as realistic as real life.
My DEILDs has been great, 1080p, every time.

I never had an LD but I'd guess it can get as real as in real life, otherwise why would people do RC?

When I started taking Melatonin and B-6, I honestly could not tell you if I had woken up or not for the next couple of minutes after waking up.

I was standing in the shower yelling clarity, and it wasn't working. Turns out my eyes were blurry from waking up, and I had all of my 10 fingers.

So they've been VERY real, and so-so. Some of them I'm just like meh lucid dream hazy bleh

The one thing you have to remember is your memory often betrays the vividness of dreams, lucid or otherwise- try to breathe it all in whenever you can.

In one of my lucid dreams earlier this week I saw an insanely vivid scene outside the window in my house. It wasn't what was there in real life but it was still breathtakingly beautiful and I almost lost my awareness admiring the little details. I would definitely say that lucid dreams are as real looking as waking life. All five of your senses are as you would expect while awake, yet dreams still have that odd feeling about them that I can't help but notice when lucid. It's much more comfortable than waking life! :cheeky:

soo true, about the dream body, taht is now my main goal, solidiy my own prescenc e in teh world, becuase, although i have had super realistic dreams, i often feel im floating through it(except for one time i could actaully feel my chest move as i breathed in)

And the realism thing, yep, i twice had such realistic dream that i couldnt fondle a girl either, it fetl utterly guilty becuase she looked sooo confused and betrayed!! ah just think about it makes me feel ill.
