I Must FLY
I have had 6 LDs and still I haven't been able to fly. I tried in 5 of them. So the next time I become lucid I'm gonna go to a field and put one skyscraper in there. Then Ill jump off the top and fly. Or if I die then I think I'll wake up or something.

Jumping from heights without strategy will only cause you to fall right down. You must be able to imagine yourself staying in the air, feel the 'air' around you with your arms, and push forward gliding through to move. And of course, importantly, believe it will happen. Good Luck.

Keep at it, you could strap some object that tricks you into thinking its not just a mental effort.
Practice!!

Personally I find it much easier to fly after jumping off large objects in lucids. I often struggle flying from the ground, it rarely works for me. So your skyscraper idea sounds good.
Don't worry about what happens when you hit the ground, since it's a lucid probably nothing bad will happen. For me I usually just hit the ground feet first and nothing happens, even at enormous speeds.

Just jump, but dont expect yourself to fall back down. Takes practice but is really quick, especially since i have yet to master summoning stuff like flying gear.
-
Sometimes my dreams even start with me in the air, hopefully that could happen and you can experience flying.
-
Funny, when I become lucid (not often) I usually don't have much control and will start flying unintentionally!
-
i have had three different types of flying in my dreams... sometimes i literally just lift off and go like a superhero would, but thats not common for me.. other times i jump a normal height and start to swim through the air just like its water, but most of the time i just jump really really high and really really long, pretty much as high as i want to, and i've said in another post a few years ago that if im trying to go somewhere where i cant make it in one jump, i land on tree tops and go from tree to tree...

For me, flying always seems to reflect my current psychological state in life. If I feel relatively in control of my life, then its easy. But I remember this past summer, when I was going through a rough time, I tried flying in a couple lucid dreams but couldn't.

have you ever flown in a normal dream?

One important thing, do not struggle to try and fly, this usually never works and will often result in the "jumping high" thing that someone already mentioned. When you're lucid, try to relax and sort of let go of any need to exert control...imagine that you are weightless, and you'll probably find yourself lifting off the ground and floating into the air like a balloon. Or if you want to fly off a skyscraper (which I'm not sure I'd recommend because you might just fall instead of fly)...don't try to jump into the air forcefully intending to fly...sometimes it helps to squint your eyes a little and let the dream blur out slightly as you let go of any aggressive desire to fly. Then when you do jump into the air, just imagine that you are weightless like a balloon, even surrender control slightly and imagine a huge gust of wind blowing up from beneath you and catching you as you jump to blow you up into the sky. If you're on the ground, try to imagine an air vent blowing air up, so that when you walk over and fall on top of it you are blown up into the air by the wind. Here's kinda what I mean:

I did it!
Thanks for the comments guys. It helped and for the first time.... I flew!!!!

Great to hear it! If you do ever still have trouble flying my favourite technique is to just start slowly. Hover above the ground for a second - almost as though you're floating in a pool at the surface of the water, but in the air. Then use your arms and push a little more - get a bit higher and start moving around. Then when you're ready start kicking/thrusting/swimming/jet-packing/iron-manning/floating cloud/whatever technique you want and start going fast! :)

Ok thanks I kinda no- clipped so I'm gonna try swimming next. But once I master this I'm gonna try energy blasts out of my hands! If you have done this could you give me some advice?

Was about to comment then saw you accomplished it, so, congrats! :)
