False awakenings making me too scared to sleep

I've had some really freaky false awakenings the past few nights.

The most lasting one happens when I suddenly "wake up" and sit up in bed. I have a mirror across the room from the bed, and the FA starts with me staring at myself in it. It's mostly dark in the room and all I can see inside the mirror is black, but as I survey the room, I become very aware of a negative force inside my closet area. That's really all there is to it but it scares me so much!

Another happens as I walk out of my room, unsuspecting of anything. There's a doglike creature outside it that radiates demon.

I've had more, but they all center around the same vibe. And what's worse is that it sticks with me even when I'm really awake. I can feel something, and I don't know if it's due to not being able to shake it or what. Part of me (the crazy part that you normally brush off) tells me that in spending more time lucid dreaming and intentionally opening my eyes to the fact that my psyche is capable of immense things, I've opened myself to a darker side of things.

I don't know how insane that sounds but it's now 6 in the morning and my eyes have scarcely left the closet area. I'm absolutely terrified!

Actually, escaping nightmares and false awakenings is one of the many reasons people seek out the ability to lucid dream and take control of their dreams. That's one of the reasons I'm trying to learn. I've had nightmares, really vivid ones at that, for quite some time. I've been losing hours and hours of sleep and my health has been takes turns for the worse every now and then as a result. I figure the only way is to take control of my dreams. I doubt this is caused by attaining lucidity honestly, I think you're just stressed out over something.
It's probably best to write these dreams down and try to attain lucidity during them, and change them. Hope that helps a little. ;D

EDIT: "has been takes turns for the worse" See that? Proof that I only got three hours sleep last night. x'D

I think as long as your scared and freaking out you will have dreams that leave you scared and freaking out. What you give is what you get. Keep that in mind, fight your fears, and like GenericUser777 said, try to recognize you're in a dream next time and take control.

I have had dreams before that have kept me up in fear for a long time after I wake up. One was about this bear type animal who carried around a net. He could sing and make people fall asleep and then grab you with his net. When I woke up from this dream it left a fake memory in my head that this really happened to me once. It took me a good two hours of sitting up in my bed with the lights on to shake the feeling.

Some dreams can really leave deep impression on us. So I understand the "not being able to shake it off" feeling.

I don't think you are being "punished" or "watched" by bad forces, because you discovered lucid dreaming. I see it as a natural evolution of mankind, something that we are suppose to be able to do to maybe better ourselves. But if you think that you have maybe crossed a line you should not have crossed, that may be giving you this bad feeling in your FAs.

I know, that some people, wheather religious or not, visualize being surrounded and protected by white light, as they go to bed at night before LD/OBEing. This will also help to fill your mind with pleasant, happy and calm thoughts. As we know, that if you are scared or have some dark thougth, those may manifest themselves in your dreams.

I have heard an idea, that scary stuff we see, could be a test - are you worth of this experience? Happy dreams.
