Hello to all. I just had my first lucid dream about 20 minutes ago. I woke up not immediately understanding what happened, but once I did... whoa! I ran into my wife's bedroom (we sleep seperately because she's a loud snorer) and woke her up. She tried to act interested... but obviously she was very drowsy and not too interested. Anyways, the next thing I did was go to google.com and googled "lucid dreaming." I read some FAQ and a few study excerpts, then I came here to read everyone else's lucid dreams and share mine. So... here it goes...
(I remember this dream with amazing detail) According to what I've read, I had a DILD (dream induced lucid dream or "dream within a dream.")
I'm on a neighbors concrete porch next to an elaborate pool hanging out with a strange woman who I had just had sex with earlier in the dream. It's supposed to be the middle of the night, but it's light out. I'm sitting in a sun tanning chair next to his pool and then the unknown woman straddles me. I know very little about the woman, but I just had sex with her so I figured I'd better find something out about her. I ask her where she lives and she says "Virginia, New Mexico"... (I live in New Mexico and there's no city or town named Virginia). So I say "Where the heck is Virginia New Mexico???" and she says "let me show you..." Next she puts her hand over my face and I fall asleep. For a VERY brief period I'm asleep. Then I awake on an operating table and a nurse is standing over me looking at me. The next thing I remember is complete paralysis; I try to move my hands, arms, legs, etc but I can't. However, I'm able to see and talk. The first thing I say to her is "hey, I'm awake but I'm dreaming." For some reason I knew that I was not supposed to be awake, as if I was under anestesia. She looks at the doctors around the operating table and has a concerned look on her face. At this point, I'm fully aware of my surroundings. I'm also fully aware that this is a dream and none of it's real. But the nurse was looking at me as if I was crazy. Then I say to the nurse: "I'll prove I'm awake... I'll wake up from my anestesia right now and get up and walk around." And then I woke up in real life in my bed. At first, I thought I was still in a dream... but about 5 seconds later I quickly realized I was really awake.
Just before waking up... I had a physical response to this lucid dream. EXTREME pressure in the middle of my head just above my nose. It didn't hurt, but it felt like someone was pushing really hard with their finger on that part of my head. The pressure was still there when I woke up, but quickly subsided.
I think I had this dream for one reason: a week before this dream I had an operation on my shoulder. I was put under anestesia for the operation. Shortly before going under, the anestesiologist gave me a piece of paper describing the risks involved with general anestesia... one of the rare risks was complete awareness during anestesia. I remember thinking to myself: "that would be so cool to be aware of what was going on during my operation." Of course, it didn't happen. BUT, the last thing I remember before going under was a nurse standing over me with an oyxgen mask. She put the mask on and I fell asleep.
Somehow my brain associated the unknown woman in my dream putting her hand over my face with the oxygen mask the nurse gave me to put me to sleep.
My only regret is not realizing that I could do anything in this lucid dream... but I chose to wake up instead! I was so focused on proving to the nurse in my dream that I was completely aware during my anestesia and that I could get up and move.
This stuff is amazing and profound!
