Astral Wind: A Thorough Investigation

This is an excerpt I found whilst googling what I can best describe, as an astral wind or pulse.

I've been experiencing the wind as long as I can remember. All of a sudden, mid dream, it feels as if my whole body has about 60% of it's energy sucked away and you are suddenly walking through an invisible wall of jello.

Now this is where my experience differs.

I am always (to my recollection) able to "wade" through the wind and that is why the term "pulse" feels much more accurate to me. It is almost as if a pulse of dense frequency was slowly passing through my body. It is mildly stressful, depending on the circumstances leading up to the pulse.

Once it happened right as I was running from some tall dark entity on a dark city sidewalk. But once we entered this wind that seemed to turn us into a real-life slow motion clip, we were both caught. It has also happened in happier, more peaceful dreamscapes.

Anyway, I am confident that this phenomena is not rare and may just be hiding under some name that I have not yet discovered. I posted it in Lucid because this is always a trigger for me to become lucid. It always "sobers me up" and gives me time to think about what I want to do next in my dream.

I experienced it sometimes, but my experience is not a pulse but more like wind. I couldn't resist it. The description matches, except that it didn't take me upwards like in your quotations. Instead it would drag me away somewhere through the air. It could be another room or some other place. Walls were no obstacle, it would drag me right through them without a problem.

Because it's so similar to a sensation you experience when you astral project, I had an idea that it's a half-projection from inside of the dream. Another idea of mine was that it's caused by a slow process of waking up, because I used to wake up after that (could be a coincidence or due to emotional reaction). Never really gave it much thought.

Strangely, your description doesn't match mine, I never felt like walking through jello at such times, neither loss of energy. Just total inability to stop moving\flying, and being dragged through space at fast speed.

Very Curious. You know, I bet this has happened to me. It definitly sounds more like the quoted event. By the way, I got it from Astral Dynamics, which I believe is a popular book within the LD community. I havn't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for sharing.

Here's an excerpt from my dream journal that gives an example of what I'm experiencing:

There is a very steep hill. I go for it at a run. I make it almost all the way up when I see car lights and turn a quick right into some major astral wind. The people I passed don't seem to be affected by it. I worry that they're looking at me funny. I do some swimming motions and make it finally.

At first I thought that your snippet is from a normal dream, but after checking your journal and reading a color legend I know it wasn't. The reason was that you wrote about being worried about how people looked at you, as if you believed them to be real people. But now I remember at least one case when I was worried about such things, too, so I guess our normal reactions to people aren't completely gone in lucid dreams and projections.

That said, I heard about astral pulse before and how people use the titles astral wind or pulse interchangeably, so I wouldn't say that your experience with astral pulse is something different from astral wind. Maybe you have a tendency to experience it one way, and others have a tendency to experience it a big differently. After all, people who classified them as one experience must have had a reason to do that. I can say for sure that I experienced it in lucid dreams, too, not only in projections, and I've heard others mention such experiences in lucid dreams.

Astral Dynamics is a nice book, although I disagree with many theories the author presents, it's still an attempt to create a structured picture of astral projection and explain many things pertaining to it that otherwise have no explanation. Even though I disagree with the way Robert Bruce explains sleep paralysis, it's still fascinating.

By the way, he used to answer questions at his forum, maybe he's still doing that, in this case you could ask him for clarifications about this topic. Although I'm not sure that he's the one who created the terms.

Robert Bruce eh? I think I have a 90 day course book by him. I remember Astral Dynamis from my earlier days and I remember thinking that it was too concrete for my liking.

The more I'm reading and getting feedback, the more I realize that the wind/pulse is most likely some facet of the same occurance. And yes I think I'm dealing with it a bit differently than others. I'd love to (and am trying to) bring it about during a WILD session but I am more and more convinced that it is an external force that is out of my control.
