Something that I find helps is daydreaming. Not the typical kind; a bit more focused. When you have some time to kill (I like to use bus journeys), imagine yourself back in that situation. Think of how you could have handled the situation differently. Imagine taking control of the situation in whatever way you see fit. It helps to prepare yourself so as the next time you're confronted with a scary situation in a dream, you're more likely to follow the plan of action you've laid out. This could be anything, like taking a deep breath and facing whatever is pursuing you with calm resolve, or reaching to your belt and drawing a sword like a badass. Changing scenes is all well and good if you can pull it off, but in my experience, this is difficult to do when you're afraid.
Myself, I adopt a ridiculous, swaggering and overconfident persona when confronted with a nightmare-harasser. Usually combined with ultraviolence perpetrated on said entity. It's empowering, I highly recommend it.
