      War dreams

Hello, I am 16 years old and have been having very realistic dreams about war. For about a month now this Has been going on.

It's so crazy. Its as if I'm actually there. I would say the most craziest one so far happened to me a week ago. I was on some giant ship, approaching a beach/island. All of a sudden a whistle is blown & I see men climbing down some sort of rope ladder into a smaller boat. Soon I go in one too. Anyway, I'm in this small medal boat now with my men and we start moving towards the beach. As I'm in the boat I see planes being shot out of the sky and bombs hitting the beach. As my small ship gets closer to the beach I see bullets flying all over the place, I see people being killed, its all so real ! When my "small ship" hits the beach me and my men run out onto the beach. Most of them die. I make it and hide behind a fallen tree. I have had many other dreams of being in a jungle with my men and fighting off the enemy. I can see exactly what I'm wearing and my men are wearing. We're wearing a Green shirt with green pants, and helmets that have some kind of camo on it. On my shirt it says USMC. Our cloths are very dirty and raggy like. Also if this helps. On our cloths is a patch shaped as a diamond with a 1 in it. Does this mean anything ? I've been waking up in sweat and sometimes crying. Once in my dream me & my men were moving into the open towards a few giant guns. We put some kind of explosive device on it. When we started to run I got shot in my leg, and one of my men started to drag me to safty.I woke up instantly and my leg was in pain, when I looked at it there was nothing there. The other thing is, a few days ago I went on a class trip to a WW2 museum and I busted out in tears and started saying things that made no sense I also started screaming out names. My class mate got it on viedo. I was very embarrassed but I think they understand. The last freaky thing that has happened to me was when I went to the cemetery to visit some family. Asbim walking through some old graves I spot something shiny in the grass. It is a dog tag, it reads Lawrence H Avery. The thing is this name sounded so familiar to me, Also when I was screaming out names Avery was one of them. I am scared to go to sleep tonight because it is so real, I feel like I'm in war. Did this happen to anyone else ? Does anyone know what to do ? I have the dog tag and I do not know what to do with it. It will help if anyone can identify things from my dream, maybe the war I'm in ? Why I'm fighting ? For some reason I have it in the back of my mind that when the war is over these dreams will be over.
      Thanks in advance.

Do you have family history of family who served and died in the military? It sounds like the class trip and cemetery visits only happened after your dreams started, so they cannot be a trigger unless you believe in being precognitive or some other beyond dreaming phenomenon (then there are all kinds of interesting possibilities or impossibilities). However, if I were you I would look first at explanations that do not require that which most people assume is impossible or improbable, and only if you still cannot find an explanation any other way ... If I had such dreams I would think back to the fact that my grandfather served in WWII and story telling from that time was crucial to him, and also a granduncle of mine died in WWII, and I had always been curious about him, so in my case my family history would provide likely explanations for such dreams. However, I am not having such dreams, you are. Is there anything that happened before the dreams started that you can recall that could have been a trigger. Could be watching a war movie? Could be learning more about WWII in school? I think you are identifying with what it is like to be in war perhaps through a lot of compassion, or perhaps due to personal anxiety of yours that may or may not be actually war related but which your brain translated into war terminology? Is there anything in your life that you are particularly anxious about? anything you are war-Ied about, battling with?

Well being in my second year of Highschool, I am a bit worried about my grades & my future, but usually dont stress over that too much. I have several family members that fought in WW2 as well. However one family member that fought in ww2 that I was very close to was my great uncle. I have his helmet sitting on top of my dresser along with his dogtags and picture. I know he fought against the Japanese. Also his helmet has two bars on it for captain. Is it my great uncle & his war friends I'm fighting with ? For some reason in my dream, when I'm sitting in the "small boat" I feel that I know many of the guys who I will be eventually going into combat with ? Is Lawrence Avery maybe one of my great uncles friends fom the war ? I don't know what to think.

Good call Joanna! I'd say that's it exactly - your great uncle probably did tell you stories, and even if you don't remember all the details consciously they were retained in your subconscious to now create dreams where you're imagining being in the battles he told you about.

Lawrence Avery - ok, if the dogtag was laying in the grass at a cemetary then it probably didn't belong to a person who is buried there - unless maybe a mourner who knew him brought it and placed it on his grave. But then I guess it also didn't just fall off somebody's neck who was visiting either - so maybe it is a ritual to place a soldier's dog tags on his grave or something? Was there a headstone with the same name on it?

My theory is that finding that dogtag 'put a human face on' the war stories you remember your great uncle telling, and made you really think about actual living people who had died, and that's what spurred these dreams.

Ah, see, your having the helmet, dog tags, and picture on your dresser that provides a very natural explanation as to why you are having these dreams. We often incorporate things from our everyday lives into our dreams, and I bet you often see those items before going to bed. I bet you are wondering what it was like being your great uncle.

Your feeling that the men in the boat are familiar to you is natural also, we often expect the people we find ourselves with in dreams to be familiar to us, and if you were in a boat with soldiers they would be likely familiar to you, so your dreaming mind assumes they are familiar.

As for Lawrence Avery, ... How often do you go to the cemetery? Is there a grave stone of his which you may have read? As I suggested before, you might want to first exhaust the possibilities that most people would consider likely and possible, and only move on to other explanations once you have established that all this cannot be explained without them.

Thanks or the replies. My great uncle never talked of his service in ww2. I asked a few times about it & he kind of just shook it off & told me it wouldn't be good for me to hear about the things he went through. When I found the dogtag I started to look for a grave with the name on it. But I did not find one. I feel like there's something I'm missing. I mean when I get off that small ship with my men & see all my men being killed, I feel that I am loosing something. I feel like there is some kind of objective I have to get to. If this helps, I feel as if the gun I am holding is my only way salvation. The gun is long & brown and the bullets go in the top. I don't know what to think. I see tanks and planes to the last detail. I am just saying that I feel as if there is something more to these dreams. Something I have to do with my men in order o win the war.

Well, of course - to a soldier in war his gun (or whatever weapon he has) is his salvation!

And we all know what WWII guns, tanks planes and landing craft look like - nobody is so isolated they've never seen bits and pieces of WWII movies. You're just having recurring dreams about it.

But it sounds like you're not going to accept a rational explanation - you should probably ask a mod to move this to Beyond Dreaming.

Well that wouldn't be the end of the world. They make these pills for headaches ya know...

If that's what your expectation is for this series of dreams then it's probably what's going to happen - that's the way dreams work. And at least - once it does happen, then I guess you're done with the dreams.

First of all, the following post is my own experience, and you shouldn't jump to conclusions about your own after reading it, it is mainly to illustrate that sometimes there is more to dreams than watered down explanations. Though if you are interested there is nothing wrong with investigating more possibilities than what is generally considered possible.

It was during my late teenage years, I started having dreams of living in feudal Japan, my house was attacked and I was a warrior defending it. The thing about these dreams is that I usually know when I am dreaming (I've been having lucids since I was two), and this didn't feel like a dream, it felt like it was actually happening. The details involved are so accurate and vivid that it become's like a memory of something that happened in a past life. I remember each move I make with the katana, how I kill every man, even the feeling of zen I had during battle, like I was water eroding a path through the mob, I can say so much about it. (though I'll stray from rambling)

I was very curious about these dreams and continue to investigate them, and have even found another person who has recurring dreams that overlap with my "memories".

It's become something that I cannot forget so easily, and I honestly believe it is an earlier life my soul has seen.

So, it is a possibility that in my past life I fought in the second world war and am having memories of it. That would be pretty cool and scary in my opinion.

If your interested in finding out I would urge you to prove it to yourself at least before considering it true, find corroborating evidence, such as a multitude of details that you could not have known otherwise, making sure they are consistent with an actual events that you did not learn about in this life before the dreams.

Hello young fella and welcome to dreamviews! the place were dreams are part of reality

I would like to share my experience and views regarding war dreams.

first of all, I live in Israel, and as some of you know or don't know, we are at constant war. may it be hamas who suicide bombing us and launching missiles at our cities (during the last operation conducted in gaza missiles were bombared over my house), and then hizzballah, who wants part of the action, kidnap bodies of soldiers they killed so that they could trade them for their prisoners in Israel and also firing missiles (they have missiles that cover all Israels territory) at Israeli population.
there are constant threats of infiltrations around the country (especially borders with the Palestinian regions) in the north and the south are also constantly watched for any terror activity.

when I was 11, maybe 12, I had dreams that my country was over run with enemies and a large portion of the population that couldn't escape were slaughtered, in the dream I was 16 and I managed to escape and join an underground group operating to save as many people as possible, this dream was the first of that I had growing up in this chaotic place. I remember clearly that I felt cold, horrific cold, and it made my dreams vivid to the point of reality, they were so realistic that when I woke up I thanked any divine power that it was only a dream.

along the way I became interested in wars, not because it was something I saw on tv and thought :"hey, this is cool, people are blowing up, ha ha ha" but in their horrific nature. my aunt served in the Russian army during the first war in Chechnya, and what she told me that she went through ( she saw people she knew cut to pieces, probably while they were alive, torture victims on both sides, she herself almost died several times, i'm sorry for the image but it was to show some color to what she experienced ). when she got to Israel she served 7 years in the national security forces, and seen a lot of blood, lost people that were dear to her and other war related shit (here also she almost died several times and also got shot in the leg).
all this images ran almost every single day in my head, making nightmares almost frequent, but most of these "nightmares" weren't about getting killed or tortured or whatever, but about me trying to save people from the horrors of war, fighting in every possible way to secure freedom.

when I was 16 I decided not to become an engineer (I love science!!!! hi-ha) as I intended but recruit to the military special forces, and after a few years to become a warrior ( it sounds so glorified) in the special police and border control unit called YAMAM (its basically SWAT, but they conduct operations often over the borders of Israel, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism and taking down large criminal organizations). if your'e asking, i, unfortunately, didn't made it because of family related issues and other topics.

What I want to summarize is that when you feel an over the edge emotion such as fear of war, it can manifest it self into your subconscious, making nightmares so vivid and intense, that it can shock you even when you wake up, you can feel your head pounding like a machine gun and a cold chill (rigor) going down your spine. these are natural phenomenons accuring when people think or hear something that scares the s!#$@ out of them, literaly.

What I did was to embrace the fact that these things happen, war and related subjects, and when I have a dream like this, I usually fight back and make every bit of effort to keep my friends alive.
I'm a science guy, I want proof and facts, and when I studied dreams and lucid dreams I understood that emotion, especially in your subconscious, is raw figment of your dream realm, what you feel is what you would see (yes, I sound so sciency right now, i'll probably go after this to watch some nature channels and read articles on how to make home-made psychedelic drugs).

my English is terrible so please excuse me kind people.
