Lucid Dream Inception? Or just a hyper realistic dream about having a LD? Is that even Possible??

Interestingly this morning I had an incredible experience. I woke up quite a few times this morning because it was hot in my room so I kept fading in and out of consciousness. Anyway I think I had an interesting LD experience that I need some help making sense of.

The dream began for a while where I was getting ready to go to a massive mansion for a dance or something. Somewhere along the lines I ended up in Mexico trying to hide from the cops. I was with some friends and I somehow just knew that the cops would be showing up soon and so I tried to hide behind a sand dune but they found us and surrounded us. They then told us that there was no other way to avoid getting in trouble unless we walked across a very small and sketchy bridge that had some type of acid below it. Somehow the idea just came to me that this was all very unprofessional and that the police would never do this type of thing. So I am right by the bridge and I look below me and everything just magically clicked. I put it together. I took a huge risk and just jumped from the top of the bridge into the acid and screamed I am dreaming. At that moment I started to fly above the acid and felt completely exhilarated. This is where it starts to get VERY WEIRD. After i flew above the acid I woke up...or so I thought. I felt myself like wake up to a new dream in which I was watching a 90's music video take place. I knew I was still lucid somehow and noticed that the dream was very blurry. So I told myself that I would close my eyes and then when I opened them it would all be clear. When i opened them it was much clearer but I felt as if I didn't have the kind of control as at that one moment flying over the acid. After this, that dream ended and I woke up in yet another dream. I wasn't lucid anymore though, and interestingly I woke up feeling like I had actually woken up from my very first dream of being at the mansion dance. I was convinced that that was reality until after I woke up from all of this confused as hell.

Sorry for the long post but this was absolutely insane..a breakthrough for me for sure. Reminded me of inception. Did I actually have a lucid dream?? or did I just dream about having a lucid dream? There were 3 different dreams in one or something? I am pretty sure I had one because I thought at one point I can't wait to tell my girlfriend about having a lucid dream when I woke up. Anyways, let me know what you think. I wonder if its possible to just have a DREAM about realizing that you are having a LD?

It was a lucid dream followed by a false awakening or rather two, I believe. Congratulations! A lot if people on DV always do a reality check after waking up, just in case of false awakenings (I try to, but I often forget to do this). If you had done a reality check after that last false awakening, you might have had anther LD. It is however quite common to loose lucidity during dreams and for part to be lucid and another not.

Hey congrats on the LD! :goodjob2:From your description it seems that you had two LDs and one FA. The first one was the acid fly LD, where you knew you were dreaming. Then you had a very good lucid False Awakening. People get false awakenings where they just wake up in the dream, but think it is real life, so they are non-lucid. But sometimes you just know you are in a dream, so it is a lucid FA or simply put, a lucid. You can also train yourself to become lucid during FAs, by doing RCs when you wake up. Eventually this habit transfers into the dream. The third dream was just a FA, because you thought you were in real life, and not a dream.

Waking up from a dream in another dream is somewhat similar to changing the scene technique. If you are lucid and change the scene, the whole dream around you changes. If you have a false awakening or a lucid waking up in another dream, you may experience a temporary black out, and the dream changes. You may also get the same black out effect if trying to change the scene when lucid. This may confuse you that you are having a dream within the dream, within the dream. It kind of sounds cool and motivating to think about inception movie, but to avoid the confusion, it is much easier to think that you are moving from one dream location to another. So you are moving horizontally in dreams and not vertically as in inception. I really hope I explained this right...:?

Anyways, great job on the LDs and good luck on having more of these in the future. I am sure you will learn to recognize these FAs and that confusion will vanish. :)

Very cool. I Always liked returning to previous dreams. They feel stronger, if you know what I mean, because there is a semblance of logic in them (i was here before, and now I'm back).
Most of my "WILDS" end up being me dreaming about WILDing, because somewhere in the actual WILD process, I drift off temporarily. Just because they aren't true WILDs doesn't mean I'm not lucid. If you know its a dream, youre lucid on some level.

Yeah, 'dream inside dream' feeling is possible in dreams due to false awakenings, but as far as i know it's just a nice scene change, unlike inception. Also 'dreaming about having LD' is still technically lucid dream, because being aware of dreaming is being lucid. :P
False awakenings can be confusing, but as JoannaB said, reality checks every time you wake up/get out of bed is a nice way of catching those false awakenings and turning them into lucid dreams. :)
