MY Most Mind Blowing LD

I just joined, so I figured I would dive right in and share my most mind-blowing Lucid Dream I've had recently. There have been many that blew my mind at the time, this one takes the cake. The main reason is that I wasn't really lucid until the very end... or was I?

There were other dreams before this, they're always a long chain of dreams. In this one I'm wading through a slow moving creek, when I came across what I thought was a large coy. Turned out it was a small water dragon. It had a fish body and a very draconian head. It was quite stunning... And aggressive. I scampered up some large roots, but it kept jumping out of the water and nipping at me. It actually managed to get a hold of me a couple times.

At this point, I'm in full blown nightmare mode. I'm focused on getting away from this thing, clambering up roots as this enormous beast is leaping out of the water in an attempt to... I don't know, eat me or something. It's kind of a generic "animal threat" theme. This whole time I was calling for help. It was all I could manage. I was so anchored in fear, that it didn't occur to me that I could be dreaming. I just continued to climb, fend off the dragon, and frantically call for help, which did eventually come.

Gracefully walking along the roots from the shore of the creek to where I was, came a girl in an Olympic style swimsuit. Her grace and fearlessness seemed oddly out of place for the situation I found myself in. Noticing her swimsuit, and assuming it meant that she would be getting in the water, I asked "You're not going to be fighting that thing are you?"

She laughed and said "no, we're taking the bridge." and sure enough there now was a bridge from where I was to the shore. It didn't appear, it was simply as if it had always been there. It was rather thin, and suspended by vines which were fastened to it's center not unlike many conjoined rope swings. Over the next few exchanges, the bridge would gradually and imperceptibly widen to resemble a more traditional suspension bridge wide enough for a car to drive across. Basically, imagine that the bridge is a symbol for my mental stability. As always, it wouldn't change from one state to another, it would simply be as if it had always been that way.

As we began to walk our way to safety, the dragon continued it's attempts to jump up and get us. "don't worry" she said, "the position of his mouth is too low for him to get hold."

But I knew this was false, I had seen it's teeth inside it's triangular reptilian head. She hadn't seen it when it managed to grab hold of my leg nor when I had to kick him off. I started to object, but she cut me off.

"sure he USED to have a more functional jaw, but now that I've planted the impression that he cannot bite you, it has become as if it were always so... And you know why don't you?"

"it's because I'm dreaming." she turned with a smile and a nod. "But if I'm dreaming, and this is all in my mind, then you are also a part of me. What part would that be?"

She replied as if the answer were obvious "the conscious mind isn't the only part which can recognize a dream for what it is. I'm from a part of your subconscious which has become lucid."



It got a little fuzzy from there, I'm sure I had more dreams, but they didn't stick as well as this one.
When I woke, my mind was blown. We lucid dreamers focus on getting our conscious minds to recognize the dream. I never once even considered the possibility of my subconscious becoming lucid. It's kind of a confusing concept since lucidity and consciousness are sort of linked and the subconscious is not conscious by definition.

Upon further thought, I realized that it actually made perfect sense. In order for my conscious mind to be aware of something, it usually has to bubble up from my subconscious first. It's actually possible that my subconscious became lucid far before I ever did... it just took me a while before I became aware of this fact. The implications of this are HUGE!

Now, I've never been able to find or meet a dream guide. I've run into a few DCs who were far more multidimensional than the average and occasionally I'll have conversations like this one. Could this simply be the same kind of experience as a dream guide or is this something entirely different? Furthermore, what could it mean to have a lucid subconscious? What are your thoughts on the implications of this?

I personally believe she's a dream guide. My own is very similar. Of course, she could be something else. I'm not quite sure why, but the idea of a lucid subconscious terrifies me.

It's not that different to real life really. Some people walk around in a haze, some people are illuminated/lucid and can offer you helpful advice. To be lucid is to know the dreamworld for what it is whether we're talking in a dream or the "real world". Ultimately there is only one consciousness whether dreaming or awake and I think your dream guide was pointing you to that realization: that everyone is a projection of consciousness (your/OUR consciousness).

This is so true. I can only experience others through the lens of my own mind. My interactions with them are all simply manipulations of symbols between my ears. We never experience the world literally. We experience the world symbolically through our minds. This is a fact of the way minds work.

When you put it that way, of course the subconscious has lucid aspects. Otherwise, DCs wouldn't be able to give any answers to dream related questions.

Yeah, I had a profound LD once which was triggered by a voice telling me that I was dreaming. That voice knew I was dreaming so it must have been "lucid".

The whole "consciousness" thing is pretty deep when you look into it. Someone like the Dalai Lama would say that we are all one being, one consciousness and that everyone in the real world represents an aspect of yourself kind of like a dream anyway. That's how the Law of Attraction works in real life, it's kind of like making stuff in an LD but it just takes more time and is harder in the dense physical world.

These are the kinds of things you begin to think about when you entertain the notion that a dream character can have lucidity.

I also use lucid dreaming techniques while I'm awake to control how I experience things. Mainly, I use these techniques to mitigate anxiety. I had this dream after months of worrying that I would have to figure out how to cause anxiety extinction. I had sorted out mitigation. I've got that down. But the prospect of having to sort out an entirely new set of tools to make anxiety go away entirely was rather daunting. After this dream, however, I realized that if I simply continue to practice them, that they'll sink in deep and deeper. Eventually, my subconscious will begin to use these techniques and eventually the anxiety might never bubble up to my conscious mind. Once that happens, it's done. No more anxiety. It was a pretty big weight lifted off of me. It also means I can focus more on what I've been doing rather than trying to find something new and different. It's a pretty big deal.

Nice, carry on with that sounds like a plan.

Also, if you're interested there's the most powerful technique to deal with emotions/issues I've seen called "EFT", I'm not sure if you've heard of it. It stands for "Emotional Freedom Technique".

You basically imagine something, or use words to trigger a memory/situation/feeling and then tap on acupuncture points. Sounds odd but seriously it is ridiculously powerful and effective for many things including anxiety.

I've actually even used EFT to program my dreams before I go to sleep, it's awesome.

I've heard of EFT, it's also very similar to the process called anchoring in NLP. I can't help but look at these things through the lens of my own experiences, so I see them all as interesting, but ultimately not quite hitting the mark. My approach sort of combines various disciplines. I can look at things like EFT, NLP Anchors, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), OCD, and even religious ritual practices and tie them all together through lucid dreaming.
