Brief intro/ auditory hallucinations

Hello,
I'm new to this board. I love dreaming, and sleep in general. I have indeed had lucid dreams where I was able to gain control of situations once I became lucid. It was a blast...but it hasn't been for a while. This question has probably been answered, but I will ask. Sometimes, when I am attempting to sleep, I begin to hear completely random voices, each with their own accents, dialects, and emotions. But they are only little clips of a conversation. As if I was constantly switching between talk radio stations. I find it hard to believe that these conversations were from memory or from me at all. It's like I have an antenna listening to conversations around the world. But before I can understand what is being said, it cuts to a different person with a different voice and pitch, just like randomly changing stations. They never really bothered me, but I find it very strange and interesting. Has anyone else experienced this?

Those are called Hypnagogic Hallucinations, it's somewhat common to have those... they're natural and harmless hallucinations some people have when they're falling asleep. :)

Yup, my favorite hypnagogic hallucination was a combination of visual and auditory. She looked very busy and about her business, and she struck me like someone who could be an admin at a doctor's office. She had a clipboard in her hands, and demanded of me "what are you doing here?!" As if I were the one who didn't belong, and not her. I didn't talk because I didn't want to wake up fully again, so I thought in her direction "Falling asleep," and she bustled off as if too busy to stay. Alas instead of fully falling asleep, I then woke back up. I once read that one is more likely to wake up from HH instead of falling asleep if one pays too much attention to it at that point, and yes I probably was too focused on her. She was so vivid though. :) I really enjoy my hypnagogic hallucinations.

very cool. you will probably be great at WILD method with some practice. you'll get used to it. I notice a lot of times I will get certain senses to come in before others during a lucid dream. sometimes i'll get auditory sensations first , sometimes i'll suddenly get visuals come into view and not be able to hear well. odd things happen during the transition from waking life to dream experience. the one you describe is only one of many.

Hypnagogic hallucinations often happen when you are more aware of falling asleep and during NREM than usual, they are harmless and many experience them, and they can be pretty amazing. With some practice you can even try to control them. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys! I haven't been lucid for a long time, I miss it. But I do have beautiful dreams which I am lucky enough to remember sometimes. Whether they are terrifying, melancholy, or joyful, they are all beautiful. There are a couple theme that I have OVER and OVER...for one, the dream takes place on a passenger train, dormitory, or mall. Those are the three most common places. I could go on and on about the details of my re-occuring dreams, but that's for another post. Thanks again guys!

Oh wait that reminds me....when I used to live at my parents house, I would get the hypnogogic hallucinations, ESPECIALLY when I am sleeping longer than I am supposed to. I would here this constant chatter, and I would eventually yell "Shut the F up"! My parents would ask me what was going on, and I would be so confused! lol

Recurring places can be a good dream sign and you can use that to become lucid, do reality check every time you are in that place IWL, or if you don't visit that place, use mantra like "When i be in place x, i will do reality check and become lucid". :)
