      ''Black space'' with WILD technique

I'm new at the forum so I don't know if this is the right thread to post in...
Anyways, I've been experiencing some sort of feeling sometimes when I relax in bed when going to sleep. If I just let go and let take over me, I after a while come into this black space of emptiness, but i can ''feel'' that my body is free. For example I can do backflips and stuff, but it's all black, like when you close your eyes. After a short while I usually wake up, but I wonder if anyone else have experincing something like it and what I can do to get into the ''real'' dream state.
      Thanks!

I experience this a lot, except the "emptiness" isn't really black or any colour at all! I haven't been able to transition from this state to a dream with visual content at this point, I usually just wake up (stay still) and imagine an environment to fall back into. Hope this helps!

      Welcome to DV guys!

Mrnojanoja, That black space is probably occurring because you are self-aware (lucid), but you are not quite in your REM stage yet, where your dream factory resides. You are in NREM, or delta sleep.

Being in NREM is not a bad thing; I've been there many times and find it quite peaceful, and a great place for introspection and, believe it or not, creativity. I even talked about it in a thread once, called Exploring Delta Sleep.

If you are experiencing this in the beginning of your night's sleep, it could go on for quite a while (though you will likely eventually lose track of your self anyway), but if you are in NREM towards the end of your night, during naps or after WBTB, try to relax and wait it out, as REM -- and its dreams -- ought to be showing up shortly. Indeed, relax and enjoy the moment; that's what I do!

This is the right part of the forums . Does it feel as though you get a slight pulling sensation as you enter this space? If you don't, that's perfectly fine, I was just wondering if you experience the same bodily sensations that I do when entering this space. It seems really similar to a space I enter when in a deep meditative state. However, it's most definitely not dreaming like you described here
After a short while I usually wake up
Unless, of course, you have slipped away into sleeping due to the relaxation of that sate. That is more then likely to happen.

I encourage you to when in this state, practice allowing your mind to fall into a deeper sleep. But try to stay with your consciousness as much as possible. If your utilizing this state to WILD, You mustn't give in to loosing consciousness or else you will not be able to successfully WILD. If you reach a state where you are mostly conscious, and your mind has mostly fallen asleep as well, you may begin to experience different colours and pictures arise, if you stay with these, eventually with a little will power, you will begin to experience scenes or dream scenes that you can/already have been submerged into. This is exactly what you want. When you reach this, practice clarifying your vision. I began with noticing by body, seeing my arms, my feet and legs, etc. It helped me submerge myself into the dream just that much further. At this point, you have more or less successfully made it into a dream with your consciousness. So, explore!

Thanks for the answers! Yeah, it feels just like a pulling sensation, like being sucked into another dimension. And I have gotten a similar feeling when in deep meditative state too, or just being high and relaxing my body. I guess I'll just explore some more and try to keep calm and focused on creating a dream.

Well that explains a lot. Do you think I could transition into an astral projection from this state easily, or is it better to try to induce a lucid dream?

^^ If AP is something you'd like to try, this seems like an excellent place from which to launch! Personally, though, I would find it better to work into a LD from there, and NREM can be a good place to start sometimes, because it almost redefines "blank slate."

... Was that ambiguous enough for you?

This state is quite versatile, so it would most likely prove advantageous with astral projecting. However, I recommend exploring it and utilizing it with LDing first.

That is similar to the point where I AP. Although I have gotten used to visualizing certain colors after the black screen stage. Usual pure white light, sometimes gold light and rarely an electric blue light. It is a pretty cool state to be in and I agree that you can have great introspective experiences.

Just a guess, but using a mantra or affirmation of where you want to go? Its amazing what things can happen when you put some intent.
