I've been wondering recently if I could practice my guitar in my lucid dreams; one of my goals is to jam with some famous musicians, and some musicians that I personally enjoy; Jimi Hendrix, the old members of Mayhem, Electric Wizard, Paul Kossoff, Mikael Åkerfeldt...
Has anyone had any experiences like this where they've improved on a certain aspect of their playing, or played alongside someone they admire? Especially if they're a rock/metal musician! I'd love to hear it. :D
Yes you can do this. Stephen LaBerge covered this subject in his book "Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming". In his book he tells how many athletes practice doing whatever they do, in their dreams. He also mentioned how some therapists even suggest that their patients go into their dreams to practice whatever they do in waking life, to get better at it. Stuff like that. Another thing, I remember reading somewhere in the book that many artists have actually created songs in their dreams, solved complex math problems, and much more.
Yes yes you can! you can practice lots of things, from psychological stuff like overcoming stage fright to actual motor skills like playing an instrument or a martial art, etc.

Practicing scales in your sleep sounds like a great idea; I'm hoping I can use the creative side of it too! Most recently I've been practicing classical music (A lot of stuff by Bach and Francisco Tárrega) on a beautiful classical guitar I bought a few years ago. I sometimes end up with bum notes, though, and my house doesn't have the best architecture for complementing the acoustics, so I think in the dreamscape I'll try and summon up a really sonorous guitar and play in a place with massive amounts of resonance like a cathedral (and maybe I'll see if I can adorn the stained glass windows and murals with images of classical and Metal musicians alike rocking out in epic panoramas 8D)Quote:

First of all, awesome taste in music. I've never tried to play an instrument in a dream but I have tried to sing. Interestingly I end up sounding like whoever sang the song that I am singing. One of the more memorable experiences was sounding like Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir.
I had a non lucid dream where I was practicing chords on the guitar, and when I finally woke up, my hands just felt like they could play better. And they did. I hadn't played in a while before that.
