      First Lucid Dream - Took 9 Days!

      I had this lucid dream while doing a WILD variation I read about a few days ago. The technique works like this. As soon as you wake up from a dream, and realize you are awake, keep your eyes closed and start imagining spinning on your own axis lengthwise. Do this a couple times, and then imagine having an OBE, rolling yourself out of your body. As you start to roll out you will feel yourself fade away into a dream, so it is important to imagine waking up in your bedroom already in a lucid state. I am going to call this technique a RILD - Rolling Induced Lucid Dream.

      Here is my dream!

      Green = Lucid Dreaming
      Blue = Normal Dreaming

      The Aqua Simpsons - September 26 2005

      I start the RILD technique. As soon as I start the rolling part, I feel myself falling into a dream. I visualize waking up in my bedroom and becoming lucid. Everything goes black for a few moments. Then my bedroom comes into view, and at that moment I tell myself, “I am in a dream”. I am so excited! This is my first actual lucid dream. For years I’ve wanted to experience the feeling, and it has only taken me 9 days to do so! I remember that I should stabilize the dream, so I yell, “Increase lucidity!” There is a pulse wave that goes out through the room, and everything brightens. I look around and see two other bunk beds, and a picture on the wall. The room reminds me of one you would find in the Simpson’s house (cartoon show). Everything is extremely blue; it feels like the room is under water. I try to get out of bed, but can’t. No matter how hard I try I am stuck to the bed. I concentrate and tell myself, “You are dreaming, get out of bed”. The dream starts to fade. I look down to my hands but everything is blurry. I try and rub them, but it doesn’t work. I then lose the dream and have a false awakening.

      I awake in my bedroom, and get up quickly to tell all my roommates that I’ve had a lucid dream. One mate tells me he had one as well, and the other says he didn’t dream at all. Then I wake up...

      Going to try this same tech tonight and see how it goes. Will keep you updated.

      Damn, wish this would have been posted yesterday - I just had a WILD this morning and I could have tried this!!

      This morning's near miss:
      I woke up in sleep paralysis (which doesn't happen very often). Like an idiot I didn't realize what was going on and tried to move my head. Just as I "boke" the paralisys I thought "Doh! what am I doing?? I can WILD!!!". However, all was not lost - I relaxed again and started hearing hypnogogic sounds - really convincing ones. But, the more I convinced myself it was all my imagination, the more "awake" I became and soon lost the whole thing

      At what point in my experience should I have tried your technique? After or before breaking the paralisys?

      I'm not quite sure, but I would say before you break. The key to this technique is making sure you don't wake yourself up, you know what I mean? You seriously have to start the imaginary rolling as soon as you realize you are not in a dream state.

      When I did it, I woke from a dream. Within 3-5 seconds I remembered, "this is a good time to try that RILD I read about". I didn't actually think that all out, it just came through instinct. So what I did was imagine myself turning round and round in my bed, 3 times. When you do it, don't turn your head. I was turning my eyes, very softly. Then I imagine rolling out of the body, and I titled my head to left just a tad. As soon as I titled my head, I heard voices around me, music, and yelling in the distance. I felt myself fall through my bed and into blackness, and during this stage when I knew my brain was forming the dream, I concentrated on waking up in my bedroom in a lucid state. This is important. Everything was black, and then within 5 seconds I opened my eyes and was in a dream, completely lucid. Didn't have to do any reality checks. When I opened my eyes I said, "I am in a dream!".
