Would you call this a dream guide?

So there's this old man who keeps appearing in my dreams, and he always says something about how I'm dreaming which wakes me up. Would you call this a dream guide or just an annoying DC who won't go away? I can never sustain lucidity when he appears, or for that matter obtain lucidity, and he doesn't seem to be helpful. I have yet to gain complete control over my dreams, but damn does this guy ruin it for me. Yet still, I feel he really would help if I could keep my lucidity around him. I would have so many questions for him. What do you think?

He seems more like a dream sign now. If he ends up helping you more in your dreams, gives you advice and acts smarter than the other dream characters than he is your dream guide. Maybe you wake up after he appears because you get too surprised or you expect to wake up after seeing him. I think he's just appearing and saying your dreaming because you want to become lucid. Perhaps when you see him you should focus on his appearance in the dream and hug him in a relaxed manner. Or you can try rubbing your hands together. I learned that focusing on your senses like touch and sight help you stay in the dream or bring it back when it feels like its falling apart. It might even take like five seconds or more to come back together but that's okay. : D

Okay, tonight I'm going to try to become lucid and find him. Or, if he finds me first, I'll try to initiate a lucid dream by seeing him.

He could totally be a dream guide! I bet he has some extremely wise and profound answers to all of your questions as well.

Hard to say as of yet, but I think Dawn Eye has some good advice. If he shows up a lot, you could focus on him as part of your induction: "The next time I see the old guy, I'll remember I'm dreaming." Might want to add something in about being calm, so that you don't wake up.
