Something or the other
Ok, I have been lucid (wohoo) but I've noticed as I drift off to sleep, which can take me a while, I start dreaming. I mean I think they're dreams, they are wild crazy things that I think I am dreaming, but often I'll "wake up" out of it, and think "That was a dream silly! Why weren't you lucid?" Of course then I tell myself that it couldn't have been a dream because I haven't entered the 90 minutes REM cycle yet so that makes it a....
And that's where I'm stuck. I don't think this is WILD since it doesn't sound like those crazy hypogenic (what's the word?) images everyone talks about. These are actual people, places and events. Also they are completely new, I mean it isn't like a playback of the day or anything. So is it a dream? Is it a wannabe WILD? And can I get lucid in that stage?
I mean they feel like dreams when I wake up out of them. I don't have any control so it isn't like day dreaming, and after I wake up it feels like my concious is starting up again, even though I'm trying to fall asleep. Like I'm slipping in and out of conciousness and subconciousness.
I'm not sure, and love to hear what you all have to say on the matter. Thanks!

Sounds like you're just in the almost asleep stage to me. I wouldn't go as far as to call it a WILD, but by the sounds of it if you put in a little (or maybe a lot) of effort you can turn it into a WILD.

Most people do experience a brief period of dreaming when they first fall asleep. Usually it is very short since your brain is quickly moving into a deep and long period of delta sleep.

You can also have dreams in other stages of sleep, but they're rare and rarely to never remembered (IF afterwards you get loads of other phases). BUT I experienced similiar things and such things are definately dreams. You don't have to ask if it's a dream, actually. If you lost conscioiusness and remembered uncontrolled images, it IS a dream. Besides if that happens in the morning hours, you enter REM much faster anyway and a brief awakening is usually followed by direct REM-onset if you came out of REM before.

Yeah, I get those too; I do think they're dreams. They're just... different from normal dreams. First-stage sleep, I think?...

yeah, this happened to me last night too...
I just focused on breathing, and soon something else got my attention, but i was close enough to sleep that i just started to dream about it. The problem is that because I'm just falling to sleep, I don't seem to have much sleep paralysis. so if I move much, i wake myself up. :(
