beginning of WILD?
Basically, last night I decided to try something new, of my own devices.
I did all the hypnosis stuff from the tutorials, and that helped me come up with a new idea. I did the most part of the hypnosis again, but skipped the last part where you bring yourself back to awareness. Instead I just lay there concentrating on lucid dreaming, and it actually felt like I didn't have any power over my body, like I was tied down or something, so that was pretty cool. I kept repeating "I will lucid dream" over and over in my head, throwing in an "I am lucid dreaming" every now and then to keep my attention on it. Eventually, once I was completely tranced, I became aware of this loud noise - well, not loud as such, just being the only noise I could hear, everything else being silenced under it. It was like that sort of noise when you're ripping material, vaguely like a zipping noise. Like when you're ripping a shirt or something. Anyway, as soon as I realised that this noise was present it disappeared, and I was back to my tranced state again. I couldn't do anymore after that because I suddenly started getting really uncomfortable, and too hot and kept having really bad itches. Either way, I had to settle for a normal sleep and didn't recall any dreams this morning.
Anyway, was this anything like a WILD?
More to the point, is it possible to WILD while just going to sleep for the first time at night, rather than only being able to after being awakened from an REM period?

I did about the same thing and came up with this weird noise to ..wasnt ripping but somewhere in that nature..your not the only one :)
-
Hmmm, very strange...
Do you reckon this is a form of WILD, because as far as I know you can only WILD in an REM period. This, obviously, isn't.
-
well mine was more of a MILD* but had the same effects

Yes,I've been practicing a "SNWILD" (Start of night wild) for a while and what I have heard goes from disturbing to...well..more disturbing.. I have had earplugs in my ears laying in bed all motionless whe out of no where I heard a child start laughing...it scared the living hell out of me, but I kept my calm and actually entered a strange dream like world..I was awake...but not awake... I went into this dream and had my first "SNWild" Just keep focusing and you'll get it..

Wow, so all this "wild-only-during-REM-period" stuff isn't as a rule? You can actually WILD from being awake? I would expect that would add more confidence, knowing that you can lucid dream by will.
-
I don't see why it would be impossible to WILD at the beginning of the night. From what I've read, it just tends to be a lot harder to do that than if you've already been asleep for a while. I'm guessing that this is because when you go to sleep for the first time at night, you tend to go straight into deep sleep before coming back up to REM, whereas in the morning, you tend to just go back into REM almost immedately. I could be wrong, though.

It is easier to WILD in the morning at WBTB because you are more tired, if you went to sleep at night very tired it will have the same effect as if you woke up in the morning. Roby here is a sort of description of WILD so it can help you understand better:

Sort has it, all you have to do is try to be nice and sleepy when falling asleep at night, this allows the body to drift more easily into dream state. If you were more awake, you would overthink and break your own concentration...

Yeah, the noise thing is common. From what i've heard its different form person to person. Lately mine consistently seems to be the noise you hear when you submerge your head under water. That sluggish weird sound. *shrugs* I dunno.
I do also agree that you can WILD without having to sleep for 4 hours before hand. Its deffinately doable.

Thanks for the responses guys, that appears to have answered my original question :D . I'll just keep at it, see where it gets me.

I'm 100% certain you can WILD at night when you are first falling asleep. In the morning it is noticeably easier to do however.
It tends to be a little more disturbing at night than in the morning for me.
The noises I hear are just loud obnoxious noises. Metal tearing, loud racket, etc..

My first and last night at having WILDS was at night after going to sleep for the first time.. and i had like 5 in a row i kept waking myself up though. i didnt mean to have them though.. i didnt even know about lucid dreaming back then.
And i didnt experience any noises? whats that about?
I Do remember once i was trying to do an OBE.. and at the point where i was so close to a WILD i felt vibrations and stuff.. and unfortunatly i got freaked out..
