met an interesting DC

i finally had a good lucid the other night. i was in bed asleep and i woke up (not FA) around 4 in the morning. as i was trying to get back to sleep, i just kept repeating to myself "i am dreaming . . . i am dreaming . . . i am dreaming . . . " eventually, although i was still laying in bed in the same position and everything, as far as i could tell nothing had changed, i RCed by plugging my nose. lo and behold, i could still breath, indicating that i was still dreaming. at one point in my dream, i met this guy who looked a lot like Eli Vance from Half-Life2, only a bit younger than Eli. i asked him, "are you another lucid dreamer, or just a character in my dream?" he said, "i don't know." later in the dream, i decided he was probably just a DC, because i was waking up somewhat and becoming more aware of my real body. as this happened, he started to fade and become transparent. even though the rest of the dream looked solid, he started fading, and i decided that meant he was just a DC in my dream, not another LDer. what does everybody think?
by the way, in the start of my dream, i successfully used the techniques of rubbing hands together and repeating "I am dreaming" to help solidify myself in the dream world.
it was way cool.

Well, Kage, sounds to me like you're talking about dream sharing. If you want more info on this kinda thing I'd either do a search on the site for it or check out the Beyond Dreaming section. It's been mentioned before and there's a website all about it called.... lucidcrossroads.com I think(?).

ah, good job. Rubbing hands together is the most highly recommended technique provided by LaBerge himself - also has worked the best for me. The thing I gotta do now is to work reminding myself constantly to do it once I'm dreaming!

yeah, i really don't know what to think about dream sharing . . .

i would definitely not rule it out as a possibility. perhaps there really is a "dream world," that exists as an actual place (in a sense) and we all go there when we sleep. in this case, the reason dream sharing seems to be so hard to prove is because (presumably) there are billions of people in the dream world at any given time, so the chances of you meeting someone you actually know are slim. even if you do, the chances you will remember it upon waking up are even slimmer. the chances that you will both remember it, and be able to confirm it when you wake up, are almost nil. another complicating aspect is that the dream world seems to be at least somewhat subject to our thoughts. by this i mean that we can shape or control the dream world to a certain extent. so even if you are in the real dream world, it's still possible that everyone you meet has been created by your own head. (of course, it's also possible, given a dream world, that there are no DCs. everyone you meet is another actual dreamer, whether lucid or not.)

another part of me wants to say, absolutely not, dreams are all within your head. my brain creates my dream, and you cannot possibly be in my dream.

yet a third part says, even if dreams are all within one's own head, you can still share them. how? simple. telepathy.

anyway. i suspect this discussion should take place in Beyond Dreaming. if someone wants to move it, fine with me. if no one wants to bother, fine with me also. i just wanted to tell you all about my dream, and talk about a skeptic's view on dream sharing.
