What a trip. I was able to do some WILDing last night and decided to try reading a book in the dream.
Has anyone else tried it? The words are REALLY jumbled and don't make any sense whatsover. I also remember trying to converse with a DC and he ended up turning a blue color. :?: Very confusing...

Because the subconscious is working with an area of the brain that does not work well with cognitive functioning. So this makes math, problem solving, reading, telling time, etc very difficult.
Not tot say you can't you can sustain a level of lucidity that is high enough to do so.
Generally speaking though, you have more of an abstract scene and train of thought.

LOL. Yeah, the last time I tried to do that, I was trying to read from a book out loud for people, and the sentences were hilarious. They made no sense whatsoever. It was like I *almost* knew what they were supposed to say but were changing right before my eyes. Talk about hilarious. I actually laughed mid lucid dream at how funny it was. :)
I've been able to read lots of times in dreams. Just last night there was a book with my name on it - which I could read perfectly. And there was a sign saying 'Keep off the grass' Which I could read with no problems. And there was an advert for King Kong on DVD, And I could read all the text in it easily. Is this unusual, or is it different for everyone?
I do remember intentionally memorizing serial numbers / signs so I could look away and then look back to see if they changed. And they did.
However, if I am looking at the object with the text on it, and do not look away, it does not change and is usually legible / makes sense.
The only time I have problems, is reading out of a multi line page, such as in a novel or something like that. It can get really confusing.
One theory I have is that reading in your own dreams is a reflection of your thought process that has developed since birth. Since I'm one of those that doesn't think too clearly and lack focus pretty often, I'm sure my thought process is very garbled and mixed.Quote:

one of my coolest lucids to date was one where i was sitting at my kitchen table. everything was very realistic, and there was a book on the table. i tried to read it and the words jumbled everywhere.
so i really tried to focus. i thought "c'mon, its a dream. the only reason you don't think you can read it is because you've heard so many people say its impossible..."
so i summoned all my concentration and tried to 'pin down a word or two'. it was as if my focused vision was an inch by inch square that blurred out whereever i looked. and it repelled all the other words and letters like a magnet, so they were always just out of reach.
i did catch a few short words like 'and' and 'the', but couldn't read anything coherent.
