intro + a few questions about thinking I'm lucid...

Hello everyone,

I'm kinda new here. And i would like to begin with an apology. I wil be writing a lot of mistakes for two very inportant reasons: 1. my mothertongue is not English 2. I'm dyslexic (and i don't know how to write that in english :-P )

Since reading exploring the world of lucid dreaming by Stephen LaBerge I had my firts 3 (intensious) lucid dreams (I had some when is was about 8 y/o but i didn't know what I was doing) but I have encounterd some trouble.

My fist L.D. : I was walking on a road and i tought to myself i need to state test and as i tought of that ik knew i was dreaming the dream became so mush more vivid but i missed the euforia i've red about. So to make sure I looked for something to read and i could not read it. So I touhgt "Let's do what every n00b does and fly!"
I flew up to the sky but at about 2m from te ground I stopped. I said to myself "This is odd. why did i stop flying??" So i tried realy hard and nothing happend... so I said "This is my dream why doesn't it go like i want!" An so i thought it could be that i was not lucid anymore so i state tested and the readeble was still unreadeble but still i did not fly!
And I woke up.

2nd one was ok everything happond like it should but ended fast.

3rd: i was walking around and is i turned the corner there was a building that shoudn't have been there. So i knew i was dreaming. I had to be on the other side of the building so i thought "I'm not going to fly over it, i'm going to walk over it." so i put my foot against the wall, wanting it to stick, and as i stepped I sliped with my foot of the wall, face flat against it :shock: :lol: :?:
So i thougt "WTF not again. My dream why does it not work. So i got over the builing by grabbing on to the ledge and pulling myself up...
And i woke up...

Now i ask myself what happend. Was i dreaming of being lucid but i wasn't. Or am i trying things that you can't do if your a n00b. I need more practice to do these "tricks".

Some help please.

First of all: Congratulations on your Lucid Dreaming; I think you are doing very well.

Lucid Dreaming has two parts to it. First is the lucidity itself, and second is the control of the dream. And people can have varying degree of success with each part. You seem to have a high degree of lucidity, but you control is not what you are expecting. Don’t worry. With practice you control will increase. For someone who is just starting I think your control is better than the average beginner.

But i don't realy understand. what do i have to practice or do i just have toe have more lucid dreams and i'll get better at it?

BTW i had a new lucid dream last night. I was dreaming i was in a medowy green place. It felt like my naighbouring town but i recognized it wasn't. So there is this girl i used to like to much... and i wanted to kiss her one last time ( i read that i could use L.D.'s to forget stuff)
So i think "i'm going to meet her here" and a few moments later i saw her. Crazy how real she looked... then i thouht "she wants to kiss me to" and she started touching me very subtle (like when we where dating) it was to real. Felt SO GOOD. but before kissing my dream stoped. Can't remember why...

And i feel realy guitly cez i have a girlfriend that i love very much... one more inner demon :!:

So this time everything was ok just to short.

But i still worry about stuff not happening like i want it to.

By “practice” I mean simply having more Lucid Dreams. Perhaps a better word to use would be more “experience” having LDs. As you have more you will find that you gain in ability to control the dream; and you are already doing very well.

You also seem to be having a large number of LDs rather quickly. Are you doing anything during the day to help: like Reality Checks? Keeping a Dream Journal?

I can’t help you with your worrying about a lack of control except to say: “DON’T WORRY!” :wink: In any dream you are dealing with your subconscious mind, and it will do funny things from time to time. Perhaps when you think about doing something, somewhere in the back of you mind, you might have some doubts or perhaps your conscience is bothering you (like when you were about to kiss that girl).

You are just getting started and you have more control than I do. Relax and enjoy it.

Sounds like you're doing very well already. I would think that the reason that you aren't having the degree of control that you would like is a simple lack of confidence. When you want to do something KNOW that you can do it, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to with your degree of lucidity. Just convince yourself that you can do whatever you would like to do. Everyone fails for some reason at some times with LD's but just forget about those experiences and believe that next LD you have you can do what you'd like. It's all in the mind

actualy i had a dream journal but i could never wake up enough to write down my dreams at night or in the morning, i'd remember them when is was at work and had a moment to myself i started thinking about what i dreamt and then they came to me. I have a recall of about 1-3 a night. Also i had no real dream signs. The only one i could find was that i was in a place where i should not or could not have been. But that's not realy helpfull.

I did a lot of reality checks just before my first three L.D.'s But then i kind of forgot about the reality checks... I have this problem that i cant rember stuff i want to remember.
EX. I need milk from the fridge so i go to the kitchen and think hmmm would like cookies. I take the cookies en forget the milk.... But i need to take up the reality checks up again.

But it is so strange that i had a lot of L.D.'s in only 1-2 weeks of wanting L.D.'s (before i was focusing on dream recall.

I think you are definately on the right track, Espada. Reading LaBerge's book was a really good choice...Also, you don't necessarily need ages of experience to have clear, vivid lucid dreams. For most people, hard work is required though. Just perservere, and as others have said, be confident in your ability. Confidence is always helpful. Welcome to the forum, by the way! :D

Things like a car turning into a dinosaur is an obvious Dream Sign, but even this can be missed and we believe that this is normal. And Dream Signs can also be simple ones. My last LD was initiated by recognizing I was in a house that I couldn’t be in because I was on the other side of the country.

The key to noticing any Dream Sign is increasing your general awareness of the things around you. And Reality Checks are a good exercise to increase your awareness.

Ok that i understand. But the dream journal aids you in seeing what occurs alot in your dreams. But i have nothing that re-occurd. exept the place where is should not be. So dream journal is not for me i think. R.C. is something i need to do more yesterday i did 3 in a whole day :shakehead2:

Yeah, 3 RCs in a day is pretty weak. And when you do an RC make sure you do it right. Really focus on the RC and everything about it. Doing an RC is not like brushing your teeth. You can brush your teeth and think about a thousand other things. When you do an RC you want to only be thinking about the RC.

A Dream Journal serves two basic purposes. One: it helps with general dream recall which helps increase the chance of an LD. And two: you can use it to identify Dream Signs. If you can recall 1-3 dreams every night and your Dream Signs are just like real life, then you probably don't need to keep the Dream Journal. I don't keep one either.

I never awake enough to write, i'm a very deep sleeper. Like i said. It's only later that day i remember my dreams. So the dream journal does not work for me i guess.
