too much sleep aid lack of dreams?

I have a bad kidney and in line for transplant. I pass stones every other month but anyway to the point....... I sometimes have a hard time getting to sleep cause the pain i have. have many doctor bills and can't allways afford the pain medicine i need so i use sleep aid instead and try to limit myself. I'm recently having little or no dreams and this sucks!!! this past week has been especially hard for me and i have used it 4 times in the past week. I do feel bad for taking so much but in my current state its my only choice for now........ but anyway the question is...... is this sleep aid affecting my dreams go away soon or longer term maybe? can i ever have decent dreams again? is there a doctor in the house? just asking for input.

Pass kidney stones oooh Gosh. I have heard that was like being shot... I am sorry. And weekly.
Man I will give you my story put I don't feel I have room to complain.
I am prescribed to a sleep aid. My dreams have taken a shit, for lack of better words.
      When I don't take them I can't sleep. So I don't have the either.
I really am disappointed in the situation.
      What do you do?

so you don't really dream when you take them? Can you still lucid dream or do they knock you out completly? I try not to take sleep aid if i can help it but sometimes it can't be helped. nothing against the people who are prescribed and need them. after taking them and then taking a little break from them i find it hard to fall asleep and when i finally do i don't dream as much. I guess whatever is in the drug does it to me? Can people become to dependent on sleep aid it f*ucks up our dream quality? this sucks what do u think?

Have you looked up the drug's properties, what it contains, what the side effects are, and its effects on the brain? That may give you a real good idea of how it works and understand it's effect on dreaming. I'd try an online drug reference like this one.

      Good luck, guys!

man, ive taking some sleep aid/pain relaxer stuff too. I havnt been dreaming either. Ive been taking them every night for about 2 weeks. last night I didnt take them but I didnt remember my dream either. But a little hope here.... I had been taking them for about 3 days at them time and I had my first LD while taking them. It was a very clear and vivid dream and lasted about 5 min. But I havnt really dreamed much since then.

I think your damned id you you and damned if you don't.
You still actually dream, you just do not have any recall.

I may be bitter at the moment because I was on a similar train of thought as you. So i id not take them last night and laying there for hours trying to go to sleep is a bunch of crap.
However on the bright side if you , I or anybody gets past this stage other alternatives for sleep may be out there,
One that does not ruin you dream recall.

Dream_buddy, your sleep aid is probably the cause. If I were you though, I would wait until your problem clears up to worry about this....Your health is key, and you need your sleep. I suspect that if you stopped taking sleep aid, you wouldn't get much sleep, much less have viable dreams...I hope everything goes well with the transplant.

True!! Very true. Thanks for making that clear.
Dreams are not as important as your current situation.

We will be here when you get better!

well I think we do dream, because I made an effort to count the dreams I had when I had them. I woke up three times and remembered 3 dreams. I dont remember what they were but I know I had them, If I wrote them down id know what they were.

Wow america is so cool medicide is way overpriced.

Anyhow, I am really sorry for you. But perhaps becouse you sleep like shit, you could try to WILD or HILD? You must be tired, tired = better chance at WILD/HILD (for me)

      Good luck with it anyways.

Thanks everyone for all the supportive post replies and input! It makes me feel better that people can relate. Yall are right though health is more important than getting to have a Ld or dream period. Allthough its so much fun to have them. Once again thank you all.

Your health is ALWAYS number one. Dreaming is just icing on the cake of life. Perhaps when you get your transplant, you could consentrate on dreaming.
