Wel,, anyway, to tell the difference, move your body. First, to avoid waking up, try to move it with your mind. If you do that, its most likely HI. After that, try moving it physically. If it works, then you're dreaming.
Any time you think you could potentially be dreaming, even if it doesn't feel like it, do a reality check. If it doesn't work, try a second RC just to be certain. You're likely to catch a lot more LDs if you can get into that habit or at least remind yourself before going to bed, especially if you can get as far as you did.
