Something Unexpected

Hi I'm Jimmie.

Here's what happened:

I recently decided to have another go at trying to have a lucid dream or two and met with an unexpected result. I was using the MILD technique to attempt to induce a lucid dream 2 nights ago and it sort of worked but sort of didn't. I realized while I was sleeping that I was sleeping and that if I knew I was sleeping then I must also be dreaming but the weird thing is that I WASN'T dreaming. There were no images, no sound, no feeling. It was completely dark and I didn't even have a body to try spinning. I was just a consciousness in a dark abyss. I was confused because I hadn't planned for that eventuality. There was no body to spin, no hands to rub, there wasn't even an image to attempt to clarify. It lasted perhaps 20 seconds and then I lost the lucidity.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm not sure exactly what happened but I think I may have in my overzealousness somehow awoken my conscious mind during NREM sleep. . . another possibility is that I managed to realize I was dreaming after the dream had faded and my mind was in the process of moving out of REM sleep.

Any thoughts at all?

I've done that on several occassions. You are right you have entered into a NREM period. Usually when I prematurely jump into an NREM state there are ways that you can Force the REM.

Well that's good to know. Thanks. At least I'm getting somewhere!

Could you give me an example of a way to force it? Or perhaps link to a tutorial on the subject. I would like to have a contingency plan in place in case something similar happens again.

It was very disappointing that the first time in 11 years that I've managed to become lucid while asleep wasn't actually while I was dreaming.

Okay Here's the deal.

The first time it happened to me I hit NREM the exact same way through MILD. The first thing I noticed was that I didn't feel a connection to my physical like I could when I perform a WILD. So I couldn't determine Sleep Paralysis it was like I was in a Dark Void and I was trapped in what I called Nothingness. Closing the dream eye and opening had the exact same effect. Considering I couldn't get SP I couldn't project like I would with WILD. The very first time it happened I became a little anxious and Lost lucidity. But I figured I had to calm myself and close my dream eyes and proceed to paint a picture in my mind, however when I did open my dream eyes into the world that I created it was nothing like what pictured in my mind all the information I created was somehow distorted and that's a whole different story. Good luck and try it the next time you hit Lucidity in NREM. Oh by the way, one thing is for sure you have a stronger will to encounter Lucidity than the average person because it's not many that can hit consciousness within NREM Periods. That's even more amazing if you ask me. Because when you actually go Lucid you are very clear because you have excellent mental health. Keep up the good work. :goodjob:
