Okay, I've never really thought about this much before but since it happened to me for the third time in two months (December and January).

Okay, here's how it goes; I'm in an LD doing whatever I feel like doing when my alarm clock goes off. As soon as I wake up I'm hyperventilating for about 2-5 minutes. I was wondering if anyone has a hunch (or knows) why this happens to me. That and... has it ever happened to you?

First view and post! (Don't you hate that?)

When you enter REM, your muscles are paralyzed and your breathing is taken over by deeper areas of your brain..
      Never happened to me though.
This is just a guess.. Anyone else?

That sounds familiar, I think a friend of mine told me that at school noce, before he went back to sleep, he's not a person who knows what LDing is though...

Thanks, at least I understand why I hypervenhilate

It's true that your body goes into sleep paralysis when you are dreaming, to keep you from acting out your dreams...but I can't see how this would cause anyone to hyperventilate. Are you an anxious person? Do you have any anxiety? I've woken up once and started hyperventilating because of a panic attack. But other than that, I can't see any reason why you would experience this. Maybe someone else has experienced something similar?

Also...has anything changed recently in your life. Are you taking any medications? etc...

I'm not an anxious person by nature and I don't suffer from anxiety, I do know that this morning, I was hypervenhilating for no reason since I was calm in the LD, as well as when I woke up and went to sleep last night

I've had a panic attack only once in my life and that was during a very long and stressful day...

I don't take meds, but I do take melatonin to get to sleep on school nights, but I don't think it has anything to do with hyperventilating

      It's the Y2K.
      It's trying to get you.
Be careful not to fall into its trap.
