Is it possible to sleep without having a dream?
yes it is, i get that all the time.
Lordalmar... stop lying to the new people... It is not possible to go an entire night without sleep. It is possible to nap without a dream though, only if its a short on as well. Dreaming comes in patterns that repeat thoughout the night... you might try looking for it on the forums. If you didn't have a dream all night, that just means that you forgot it upon waking, it happens alot to people that don't work on dream recall.
It's more likely that you just don't remember it due to bad recall.
Edit: Hah, beat me to it...
You would know this, how? If you don't remember any dreams over the course of a night, it'll seem like you didn't dream at all, but that's not to say it didn't actually happen...
You can not have dreams if you don't enter REM sleep
But people go through about 4-5 REM phases on average through a regular night of sleep.
i know it, because it is different when i dream. when i do dream i wil see the dream/characters ect. the thing that is even more strange, is that i notice i am talking IN MY OWN MIND. i no longer notice my sleeping body, but i am aware that all this is in my head.
i have never interupted myself in my dreams, i will try this next time. if it works like i think, i will be lucid no problem i am sure.
Practice dream recall?
Most people on most nights, but I'd bet my right arm that there are times when people don't enter any REM phases in a full eight hours of sleep. Granted, it's not very likely under normal conditions, but who knows? Maybe there's even some sort of genetic disorder where you're less inclined to go into REM during sleep.Quote:

So, to answer the question - Yes, I'd say it's very possible to not go into REM (and therefore, not dream) on certain nights. It's not very likely, though, if you don't intentionally send yourself into a drug induced coma.
Say what?
It is possible to go an entire night without dreaming, however, under normal circumstances, it is very unlikely.
Most people have several dreams a night and just don't remember them. I feel like a text book. I'm regurgetating info.
Last night I counted 12 dreams. I don't remember any of them, because I didn't feel like writing them down. If I didn't have really good recall, though, it would have seemed like I didn't dream at all.

to put it simply, i know when i am dreaming and when im not. here is an example to explain it better.
i will be having a dream and all of a sudden, i will think hmm thats strange/weird. its like i automaticly have an idea that i am dreaming. i just have never confirmed it, i will think about it for a few seconds then go on. i ALWAYS have the idea in my head, and think about it when i dream.
if i stoped and checked, i would be lucid IN EVERY DREAM. i may try this next time, and see if it will work like i think.
What happens when you don't dream? You just see blackness?
