This morning, after I had woken up briefly, I had a lucid dream.

      Since I have now made it a habit to do reality checks everywhere (reading text, then looking back and away several times to see if the text changes), I did one in a dream.

      Now the reality check failed (I already knew it was a dream, and was lucid, however, the text NEVER changed. I looked back and away 7 TIMES. It didn't change. It said Oxy clean by the way.)

      Also, I couldn't do ANYTHING. There were no exits to my room right? So I tried thinking of a tropical environment hard. Nothing. I tried spinning around while thinking of that dream environment. NOTHING!

      I tried everything. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening, but I knew I was dreaming. (And yes, I am 100% sure I was dreaming)

      My questions:

      1. How often does the text reality check fail?

      2. Any other ways to change a dream scene? I thought of everything I had ever read.

      1. Often enough to make it a very unreliable RC, like the "light switch" RC..which often fails because a light switch will sometimes work normally;

      2. I use 2 techniques: a) Intending it; b) Jumping up in the air on the spot.

      These techniques will only work with practice and strong lucidity. If you're a relative beginner, don't even think of trying them until you get what I'd call "100% dreaming attention", which can be elusive.

      I never do the text reality check. There's never text in my dreams for me to do it on. I'm always outside or somewhere with no text. Try different reality checks, like holding your nose and breathing.

      As for not being able to do anything, that's just a control issue I guess. Can't help you there since my dream control isn't that great. All I can say is just try really forcing what you want to happen to happen with your willpower. Hope that helps.
      Reality? Where? Did I miss it?

      IMO the nose RC is not infallible, either..

      Ah, I never recommend text checks because even if they work at first, you can eventually gain enough concentration to keep the text the same when doing that RC, lucid or not, which is kinda good, kinda bad. [Bad like you'll never become lucid if you don't do day a nose RC if you spend your dream reading a book]

      I know this as a fact since I read a book last night in library in a nonilucid dream [which I forgot to add into my dream journal since I'm only remembeing this now], It was called 'Right You Can Do,' it was about this girl with low-self esteem that meets the grim reaper and falls in love, but that's not the point. I the point is that you can gain control over text to make it stay the same, I know that they're people on the site that cna do it too, it's actually quite fun, you should try reading books that only exist in you sleep sometime.

      I don't recomend the reading text RCs either. The other night in a LD, I saw some writing and even though I was certain I was lucid, I decided to read the text just to see if it would look distorted. It didn't, and I could read it perfectly (it was actually a series of numbers.)

      The hand RCs, especially the finger through the palm one work best for me. I don't think I've ever had one fail. The only problem is often it's dark in my LDs and I can't see well enough to know if my finger is pushing through. If that happens I do the holding the nose one.
