to the other side
i realised i was dreaming
'cool,i told myself so i thought that i could break the wall'
i kicked it hard -- it didn't break

Hi Liza :)
First off, welcome to the forum! :D
And about your dream - lucidity and control are not dependent on each other. You can be lucid and have no control. And you can have control and not be lucid. Of course the aim of this site is to achieve lucidity WITH control, but that doesn't always happen. So don't worry, what you experienced is normal.

Welcome to Dreamviews!
It's like Burns says, you can have a lucid dream without control, just like you can have a normal dream and have control over it.
If you want control then you'll have to be confident that what you want will get done, no buts, what ifs, and/or doubts, even the tiniest inkling of doubt can make control hard.
If you can't it done through one way, such as shrinking by thinking it, then get it done another, like summoning throse mushrooms from Alice In Wonderland or finding a machine to do it for you. They all do the same thing, some ways just work better in others because you have more confidence in those things.
