A very amusing RC
I had a dream that I met the comedienne Kathy Griffin. She left me a page with some written commentary on it, which I was responding to in writing. I was trying to write something very simple on it, and kept mispelling the words, crossing out what I wrote, and trying again. She came back to talk to me, and I embarassingly tried to explain what I was writing, and that for some reason I couldn't write it. I said to her:
"Have you ever had a dream where you were trying to write something, and for some reason you just couldn't write it? It was just like that!"
Then I suddenly thought to myself this was the perfect time for a reality check. I didn't want her to think I was nuts, so I tried to explain what I was doing in a light-hearted way:
"Oh! I should do a reality check! It's this thing I've been doing lately whenever I get a hint that I might be dreaming... such as having trouble reading or writing."
At this point I was still totally convinced I was awake. I picked up a book that was lying on the table and flipped it open.
"You see, in your dreams, it is very difficult to read or write. So if I had trouble reading this book, I would know I was dreaming!"
Then I looked at the book, and of course I had a lot of trouble reading it! I was lucid! It was so amusing that I chuckled and just had to share the joke with Kathy.
"I can't read it! This really is a dream! Isn't that cool? I would have never realized it if not for my little reality check. I am totally dreaming right now!"
She was pretty amused and intrigued by the whole thing. I don't think it ever dawned on either of us that if I were dreaming, she wasn't actually there!
Unfortunately, I woke up right after this. I love the fact that the RC seemed so routine in the dream, much the way they seem in real life. Even funnier that I was a little embarassed explaining it to her, since we obviously were awake!

I had a funny RC like that recently too. I suspected it was a dream, and I looked at my hands and my pinky-tip was missing. I told my Dad that we were in a dream, and I showed him my hand, which by that time consisted only of a thumb and one finger. I told him to check his hands, but his were normal.
Kind of the same as yours--I knew I was dreaming but I thought my Dad was dreaming too. I have that fairly often, now that I think about it. Kind of low-level lucids, I guess.

yeah that happened to me, except I was trying to call someone and I couldn't get the phone number right. I was even in some weird "other world" that I thought I was really awake but in a dream world and I even thought to myself "i'm probably the only one in the world that knows this magical world here, and all these things look like something I would dream about, but I know I'm awake so there's no point in doing a reality check, even though my phone isn't working and I cant get the number right" and I DIDNT DO A REALITY CHECK! I was so mad! I didn't get lucid, I wanted to kick myself when i woke up
