My first experience w/ lucidity

The mind is a crazy place. I had tried to "train" myself to dream lucidly 5 months ago, but lost interest. Then lately I've been having extremely clear dreams that I could recall well, down to dialog which is uncommon for me. Then last night I did it without even trying. It was extremely short - maybe 10 - 15 seconds. I had been dreaming about killing vampires in a dark mansion and some poor girl got mauled or something. The scene changed and I could see her sitting with a friend on a couch eating popcorn when the fact that I was dreaming hit me like a brick. I said "holy crap, I'm dreaming aren't I?" - the girl shook her head yes and I felt this wave that made me tingly and dizzy, like I was spinning. After that I felt in control and clear. When I tried to move, the excitement woke me up - I tried to calm down, but it was too late. I felt that same spinning motion the other morning when it's common for me to dream blindly - I'll be half asleep and hearing or imagining crazy thoughts like a dream, but I can't see anything. I noticed my state of half-sleep and that same spinning feeling came over me, but I was still in the dark. I wonder now if I entered a dream, but couldn't see it. Both times I woke up with a nasty headache.

I wanna do it again, so I wonder - is it easier to dream lucidly once you've done it before? I got lucky, but I'm dying to do it again.

It generally gets easier each time. Keep up your 'training'.

Sad thing is, I didn't do any training. I have a hard time remembering to do reality checks and such, and perhaps the better understanding of dreams from reading about them was enough. It was luck, just by chance. Maybe my dream self said that I was dreaming just from reading that line so much: "holy crap, I'm dreaming." The odds of it happening again are slim, so I'll have to do reality checks. I may have screwed up - making it only 15 seconds. I think I closed my eyes which is my natural reaction when I'm trying to calm down - apparently that makes you wake up? Why?

Besides that dream, many of my dreams that I recall are fairly normal and hard to determine if they are false or not. I have a lot of dreams about ordering food at McDonalds or working, rarely unusual. They say that finding dream signs helps - something weird that occurs often, like an object or whatever. Mine so far is people that I don't know, which doesn't help too much. Oh well, I'll keep trying. Cool forums, btw.

I do not know why this makes you wake up, it just does. :-P

I sometimes think LDs are uncontrollable, because I have'nt had one in over 2 weeks.

By training, I didn't mean formal training. I was referring to teaching your mind to notice things out of the ordinary, how to stay calm, and how to control your dreams.

I agree with Paperdoll. Closing your eyes is bad.
Case in point:
I usually close my eyes when I kiss. I have learned that this is the quickest way to terminate what would otherwise have been a very nice LD with an attractive member of the opposite sex.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhck i know!!! i noticed that too...now that is just WEIRD kissing with your eyes open...but, whatever works i guess.. :?

I just had my second LD. In my first one I woke up because of the excitement, but this one, I was doing something really wierd and then realised I was dreaming. Then I got this warm feeling and everything went black. I tried to materialize a door in front of me, but it didn't work. So I said "When I will turn, there will be a door there." And I turned, and a door was there. Now, the dream got all blurry so I tried spinning and it didn't work. Now to the question: Is there anything else I could have done to stay in the dream and not wake up?

Try rubbing your hands against eachother,or focus on your hands,feet or an object,also for me verbal commands tend to help..just yell out like..

"INCREASE CLARITY NOW!'
"INCREASE LUCIDTY NOW!"
"INCREASE AWARENESS NOW!!"

Like I said before,it might alll be up da head,because yelling simply creates a sense of awareness and confidence..
