5th LD, still cant fly
this last LD i ALMOST flew. i was gunna close my eyes, jump off the top of a building and just BELIEVE im flying...... but then i saw the pavement and was like "wow... that asphalt looks pretty real... what if im not dreaming....... that would hurt" and i dindt do it.. net time! :D
-
I can't fly nether but I have a method I will try tonight, I will put zooming and jumping togather. zooming goes like this, look at something and try to have it pull you in, just focus on it. Then try it on an airplane, or something in the sky. jump then focus on the airplane, this should pull you of the ground :D
-
One that I've tried and it's worked for me is get on a long empty place or a long, straight street in your dream...Then start running quickly and then jump and imagine yourself jump floating in mid jump....Then It might work.
-
Get in a plane and jump out.
-
The problem is when I run I feel as if Im getting heavier and heavier, and there's more and more gravity.
-
Try my technique, treat it as if it's normal, just think, Oh, I'm flying, how nice... now where did I put the keys? The same applies for summoning, just act as though the object has always been there.

Flying
You say you're afraid to jump off of a building and try to fly? You could consider that a dream sign and do an RC. "Why am I on this building? Do I remember coming up here?" Also, if you're on the building and you're not sure you're dreaming, try doing something else simple, maybe verbal commands.
I used to have a lot of flying dreams (usually when I'm semi-lucid) and the more you do it, the more natural it becomes. Have you tried simply floating?.... :yumdumdoodledum:

Well, I only had my first LD this morning so I'm probably not qualified yet to offer advice, but on the other hand I already seem to have mastered the art of flying!
The first thing that happened after I became aware I was dreaming was that I gently floated off my bed and across the floor. Then I just thought to myself that it would be cool if I could fly, and no sooner had I thought it than I was floating up through the ceiling! I then decided that it was dangerous and I should probably get down before I injured myself!
Maybe I wasn't really controlling my dream but it certainly seemed that way. So, if you're still having difficulty learning to fly, perhaps you could start by simply staying relaxed and floating like I did? I'm not sure if this will work at all, but let me know if you have any success.
-
Perhaps you should try it the other way round and jump off the ground and just believe you can jump really high and work up to changing that jumping motion into taking off and flying?
-
I think it's mainly confidence. I used to have a lot of lucid and semi-lucid dreams where I could only get a few feet off the ground and move around with a really inefficient water-treading motion. Then I read other people's accounts of how much better they got at flying over time (keep that in mind--improvement is constant, if sometimes slow), and the next time I realized I was dreaming, I thought, "so it should be totally possible to just take off and Superman around; other people have done it," and that's what I did, I just launched right off the ground, and it was effortless, just because I knew it could be done.
-
Try and think calmly "Hey, look, I'm flying!" And you might start...that works for me sticking my hand into a wall. I think "Hey! Look! My hand went through the wall!"
-
Try having dream characters throw you up in the air. :D
-
Lucid83, that's a very unique idea! :goodjob2: Has it worked for you?
-
I've always been able to fly in dreams if I choose to. Its quite easy, lets see if I can explain in a way for you to understand.
Most of the I've flown was when I was running from danger, only a few times for the mere pleasure. But there has always been a motion, and this came after running. Imagine yourself on a beach, running toward the water, before your feet get wet you JUMP into the air with your arms out, proceeding in a breast-stroke motion as though you were swimming (only have to do this for a couple second). Then arms are used as controls, left and right; Head/neck is used as controls for up and down.
Let me know how it goes.
-
Once again, it comes down to belief and willpower.
Like Night said... it needs to feel normal and expected.
There are other ways that can the belief part of the equation easier to stomach. For example, have you tried using a shortcut?
That means temporarily putting on, for example, magical antigravity
boots. Or a jetpack.
Once you're flying (which should be easy, because its 'normal' behaviour for your jetpack), you can look at those boots or jetpack and say something like 'Thats stupid.. its a dream. So its just a figment of my imagination, and its really me doing all the flying anyway...'. Make it go away, and you're flying by yourself ;)

last night I had my first flight. with this method: I took an umbrella and used the zooming method on the moon and flooted realy high.
-
Flying kind of comes naturally to me, I've been able to do it when ever i wanted to in lucid dreams. I usually start out by jumping then sort of swimming through the air. If i want to go faster i put my arms out like super man. Although sometimes while flying my legs do start feeling heavy and i sort of float back down the the ground. I find when flying though just have the place that you want to go in mind and you'll usually find your self there. I've spent time flying over the road to make sure im going the right way, then suddenly im there.

second life pretty much got me familier with how I should fly in dreams.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! I WILL TRY ALL OF THESE METHODS... hope one of them work :D im probably gunna start with believing that im floating, then jet into the air and........ wosh zoooooommmm its a jet, its a spaceship, no, its MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! yay!!!!!! :D :D

having dream characters throw me in the air worked partially when i was in a dream that turned lucid. I used it as a test to see if i was dreaming and it worked. I went up fairly high.
-
I remember this one flying dream I had, where I had to chew on this special white gum to fly. It was like a little clay thing i had in my pocket, and whenever i took a bite, I could fly... You could try that, having something to substitute for the flying effect, like, try to imagine that you have a magic feather or something, and whenever you have it in your left pocket or whatever, you can fly... :P

Its just like the Matrix. Once you realize where you are, you can do anything. Don't try to do it. Just do it! Yoda was right.

I had a LD a couple of days ago after a dry spell, and all I did was tense every muscle in my body and jump into the air, like a spring. And it worked! I didn't expect it to, but it did.
