      Terrified to sleep tonight!!!!

I had some dreams where I realized I was having dreams and mentioned the work Dream in them. This is mainly what happened. Sorry about the mess, but I typed myself an email when I woke up so I would remember and then found this site directly afterwards.

"It started out where I was talking to a friend about life in his basement. This friend was Nick S. He asked me if I had apologized to my mother for all the things that were going on as of late. I got confused and asked him what he meant, he said about the bike thing and graffiti and being crazy. I got confused and realized I was having a dream. I then tried to tell him I was having a dream, but the word Dream would not come out. My view of the dream came into a slow motion closeup of his face while it became dark, grainy, and showed no characteristic.

I then woke up in bed and rolled other to my girlfriend, Mana, in bed. I tried to tell her what had happened but I wasnt able to speak correctly. I started to fall off the bed in the same slow motion manner and finally woke up from my dream within a dream.

I had several other dreams that night entailing me telling someone, usually Mana, while in bed, or my mother, that i was having these dreams. And whenever this would happen, whenever the word dream would be mentioned. Like the first dream, they would all start to disintegrate into a grainy darkness of slow motion. They would all end with me falling off the bed and then waking up in my normal position of sleeping on my side while facing the edge of the bed. I hadnt really fallen off my bed.

The only difference seemed to be that I had been forced to peek under my bed in the last, i think it was 5th, dream where my head would continue to peek below and come back ontop of the bed. While my head was peeking under I would see nothing and only hear the sound of a hissing snake in near proximity."

Now Im sitting here afraid to go to bed because of what has been happening. I cant seem to tell the difference between a dream and reality at this moment and Im scared to go to bed in chance I might get stuck in a dream forever.

BTW, Im going crazy I think, regardless of all the great things someone might say about me.

      /rant

Hey, first of all, welcome to DV.

Secondly, what you had is called false awakenings and its very normal. You shouldn't be worried. It's physically impossible to be stuck in a dream forever. It's been proven scientifically (by Stephen LaBerge) that dream time is the same as real time. That is, a dream will never last more than the REM period will last... which would be an hour at the very, very most (more like, 30 or 45 minutes).

As far as being able to tell the difference between dream and reality, well, that's to be expected. To our brains, there is actually no difference between dream and reality. The brain receives information from both dream and reality in the exact same manner... the only difference being that in reality, the information comes from the outside. In a dream, the information comes from within our brains.

Anyway, you should take a read at the different RCs (reality checks) available that can serve to prove yourself whether you are dreaming or awake. There are some techniques listed in the Lucid Dream Induction Techniques section in the main website. Here's the link.

      Some of these techniques are:
Try putting your right index finger through your left hand. If the finger goes through, then you are dreaming.
Try plugging your nose with your fingers, and breathing. If you can breathe with your nose plugged, you are dreaming.
Try looking at a clock. Now look away and then look back at the clock. If the time is different, or if the clock looks odd, then you are probably dreaming.

The list goes on. There are infinite ways of assuring yourself whether or not you are dreaming, and you will probably benefit from reading around the forums.

check out some of the tutorials and explanations given in the main page of this website, I think you'll find the information very helpful. Here's the link: www.dreamviews.com

Good luck on your dreaming. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Oh, and once again, Welcome to Dream Views!

      it happened again...

Ive never been one to be able to think about something before I go to sleep and then it would happen in a dream.

Well, I had another one where I realized I was LDing. I was at work and one of my co-workers showed me this dress he made and said all his friends said it was ghetto. We work at a t-shirt printing shop and he has his own clothing line. I check it out and say it has a bit of ghetto-esque approach in the sleeves. He then mentions that it might be ghetto because of the material he used, something that wouldnt be comfortable to wear as a dress. I agree and realize this is strange.

I then realize Im in a dream, but that I shouldnt act strange so that a DC wont notice me. I have a strong fear now of DCs in my dreams trying to do me harm if I noticed I am LDing.

Well, I dont say anything and try to act normal. I notice that my co-workers face starts to get darker and his shirt starts to creep up his neck everytime i look back at him. I finally notice that he is gone and a taller figure in a deep purple cloak, more like a guy standing with a purple cloth over him, and i then am lying back in my bed in a FA.

This figure hovers over me and puts its hands on my head. I struggle to yell but no words come out and I cant seem to move. I am finally able to bite his pinky in which he shows no response.

      Then I wake up.
      -----------------------
I cant deal with this. Im such a fucking pussy it seems. Im scared to sleep, haha. Its like everytime i go back to sleep my LDs get progressively worse.

It must be the great amount of stress that has landed in my lap in the last few days.

This is just me ranting, i need somewhere to put all this in a public forum and this seems to be the most appropriate place to post it. Ill do some more reading on LDs and try to gain more control of these situations.

      Thanks, Peace.

Im not an expert but this is what i think as far as i know.

      Are you expecting these things?

Because i think dreams can be manipulated directly from the mind so if your thinking "oh no something bad is going to hapen" im guessing something bad is going to happen.

Being afraid of sleep might be doing it aswell, if ur happy and like going to sleep ur mind might think its a good thing instead of fearing it causing it to freak out.

      Hope it helps you!

I think you got it straight on what the problem is.

Rhino, from what I read on your posts, it seems like you are already expecting bad things to happen. It is no surprise that those bad things are making their way into your dreams.

This seems to be part of the root of your problem. Don't fear DCs. As a matter of fact, don't fear anything that is happening in your lucid dreams. Realize that since you are dreaming, your real body is safe and sound on your bed. Anything that is happening, as real is it may seem, is just a product of your imagination. Nothing that happens in the dream will affect your body, and you can be in full control of your dreams if you truly believe in it.

Take the fear out of your head. There is no reason to be fearful, and it is clearly impairing your ability to have a nice dream. It is causing your dreams to turn out how you're expecting them to turn out - in bad ways.

Good luck, I really hope your dreams turn out more pleasant. You already have the ability to lucid dream, now the only thing keeping you from having good lucid dreams are your beliefs and expectations.

Keep this in mind once you become lucid:
Everything that you see, hear, feel, and taste is a product of your subconscious, imagination, beliefs, and expectations.
      Nothing is real.
Whatever you do, as real and vivid as it may look, will not affect your physical body.

I really hope this helps the outcome of your dreams. Keep us posted on how your next lucid dream goes.

      Good luck!
