I find that holding my nostrils shut with my fingers won't prevent me from breathing at all, but "vanishing" my nose and mouth results in extremely realistic and frightening (aside from the fact that I know it's not real) feelings of suffocation.
Thoughts/comments?
Well, it's probably just your subconscious trying to replicate as best as it can what would happen if you did indeed have your nose and mouth vanish. Your mind knows that you can only breathe through your mouth or nose... if both of them have vanished, then its understandable that your mind would recreate a sense of suffocation.
Interesting take nonetheless. I never heard of anyone trying anything like that.
Have you tried "truly believing that you can breathe" when your nose/mouth vanishes, in the same way that you "truly believe that you can breathe" when you plug your nose for a reality check?
