      Attempted WILD into a DILD

      Hi,
I'm very new to all this. I have been thinking about how amazing it would be to lucid dream over the past week or so. Have been meaning to do it earlier but things like drinking have got in the way, at uni.

Well last night I set my alarm for around 6am but I kept waking up before the alarm had gone off. I think either because I'm not used to my bed at home yet or I seem to always wake up before any alarm I set whatever time it is. So anyway it was eventually 6am I woke up and my throat was incredible dry and didnt feel in the mood to stay awake for 30 mins or more so I basically just had some water and then proceeded to lay still counting, breathing and saying "am I dreaming?" (in my head). I interchanged this between the 61 point technique of relaxation. I was able to keep my body really still but I had to keep swallowing and as my throat was so dry it took more effort for my throat muscles this kept waking to the "real" world.

Is it best to not even have to move my throat to attempt this?

Ok so eventually I gave up on the WILD and moved my body and quickly fell asleep. I had a few random dreams I cant remember. But then I was having some random terrorist/boat dream and I dived over board into the dark water. Search divers jumped into the water and I frantically tried to grab one (I hate hate dark water, or the sea in that matter) I must have realised it was a dream and made myself spin. I appeared in the sky above carribean islands and was swooping and soaring, it was hard to keep vivid ( rubbed my hands worked well). When I attempted to land the dream ended. (or did it might have been a false one but I cant remember).

Is it quite normal to fail at a WILD and then end up DILD?

      cheers

oh sorry thats quite a long first post.

Yes, because you were thinking about lucid dreaming that whole time. It has the same effect as WBTB.

Congrats, Munkey, on that lucid dream!

Yes, that happens to me and others a lot. Just like Ninja said, you mind was concentrating hard on lucid dreaming so even if you slip into a normal sleep, the chances of recognizing that you are dreaming is a lot higher.

Happens to me all the time. To the point where I don't really care if I fall asleep during my WILDs anymore. Keep in the mindset and confidence that if your WILD fails, you will still have a DILD.

Yeah, that happens to me nearly all the time after failing a WILD, although sometimes I have dreams that have some really obvious stuff about LDing in them and I don't become lucid which can be really annoying. And about the throat thing, I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter, after all you do breath while trying to WILD(at least I hope so) Although I may be wrong, I'm not an expert.

hey, tried nother WILD yesterday but only gave myself 4 hours sleep didnt work as well. I got the feeling of heaviness and also the feeling of being in a hectic sea moving my body around for a short while, but I think my conscious kept bringing me back to my surroundings and couldnt fall into a dream. Gave up and just moved and then slept normally had some pretty wierd dreams, but not lucid ones.

Before I tried WILDing I was a WWII sniper and got captured, then was returned and given a medal. Why did I not think I was dreaming I have no idea. I think I need to start incoporating RC into my real day life. Any tips of the best one to do and times to do it during the day so that they transfer into my dreams. Cheers
