      It really happens?

I wake up around 2 30 ish in the morning basically everyday and when I do
the weirdest things are always happening. Sometimes my dogs are talking to me and I can always remember the conversations we have. One night it was almost 4 in the morning and I saw a really small person running across the floor by the foot of my bed and i sat up and watched it run to the corner of my room by the door, and when it got there it started growing and soon it was taller than my room and it was kinda bending down so it could fit. I couldnt see its face because it was wearing a black robe and when I looked up towards where its face should be my muscles started like spazzing out and my eyes kept rolling back in my head and I remember trying to look out of them but i couldnt because they wouldnt stop moving and my legs and arms were twitching and it lasted for a couple minutes and then it all stopped.
Sometimes when this happens im paralyzed but not all the time. Sometime when it happens when im paralyzed i see a man in a black robe with a really white face just like bobbing around in my closet and it is scary because the bobbing is like so creepy. Other times though when im not parlyzed i have thought i seen a little witch dancing on the end of my bed and I woke up one night and there was a man on the right side of my bed pouring salt all over himself, that day i decided to move my bed around and I found a knife from the kitchen in it. Im not sure how it got there i could have put it there but I dont remember doing it. One night i remember i got up and for some reason i couldnt breathe and it was like something was stuck in my throat and i was hitting my walls and trying to breathe again and my mom was standing there lookin at me and then i started breathing again. Well the most recent thing that happened to me was the other night and I woke up around 3 and there was a big black dog at the end of my bed and it was standing on his hind legs and he was talking and waving his arms around like people do when they want someones attention...
well yah im not sure what exactly it is but it is weird.
      and I felt like sharing.

      That all is pretty freaky.

Could be all 'old hag' type things happening to you, especially if you're paralized some of the time. Do you know about the Old Hag effect. If not, search for it here. There are plenty of threads about it.

Next time you find yourself in such an odd situation, do a reality check before you do anything else. Find your hands and really look at them. Are they yours or are they different. IF they are different you are dreaming, know that you are at the start of a lucid dream. What you do from there is up to you. YOu may have to work at dream control by the sounds of it if you have all these odd creatures pestering you as you're beginning to slip out of sleep.

This happened to me once when i was in the army, i thought i had woken up since i was laying in my own bunk in the same room i went asleep in and it was night so nothing seemed out of the ordinary but then some strange person i didnät know tried to choke me and i couldn't move i was paralyzed and i tried to scream for help and i almost uttered something i believe but it sounded just as if i was really being choked, then the person started rocking my bunk and slammed it into the wall and at this point i was really freaking out. But then i woke up for real and i wasn't too worried since i knew exactly what had happened, since i had read about it previously:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

You'r mind wakes up but your body stays asleep and because of this half sleep thingey you will hallucinate, quite different from lucid dreaming since you are partly in the real world, the enviroment around you is real and i bet if someone filmed you while this was actually happening your eyes would be open and looking around etc.

Sounds like some pretty interesting false awakenings.

I remember the first time in my adult life that I experienced "The Old Hag", I was asleep alone in an apartment and I saw a little girl with no face and stringy black hair staring at me from my kitchen. It really freaked me out!

I thought I had lost it or died or something but learned later it was sleep paralysis with some nice active dream hallucinations thrown in. Or so I tell myself.

That thing you wrote about the little person running across the room and then growing is really freaky though.

I have had a couple encounters with the old hag and they scared the heck outa me.

      1. I was trying to fall asleep and apparently I had b/c I suddenly realized it was 3 in the morning and I was awake. I had this really bad feeling I was being watched. I looked up and my room was a little different but it didnt strike me as odd. I was too focused on the weazing slumped figure in the corner where my desk was supposed to be. A chill ran down my back as the sound it made was so creepy. Well it stood up and I realized it was a small girl with long grainy hair, I never got to see her face thankfully, but she started to stutter step towards me. That was freaky and I couldnt get myself to move. She lunged and grabbed me by my neck and I could feel her cold wet grasp around my necka nd the warmth of her breath running down my back, it freaked me out. not to mention the stench was horrid. It was freaky.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.~

I don't really know much about lucid dreaming and such but just happened to look it up on wikipedia after seeing the very interesting Waking Life film.
I then found the link to this site on there and read this rather creepy thread. Then I almost closed the window in fear it would only stick in the back of my mind somewhere ready to be unleashed in some nightmare at some point later.

But I realised I have already had some pretty freaky dreams myself. One of which I always tell people cause it still scares me even today. Well, it's not that scary really and even less so to you perhaps since you weren't there:

It happened in 2000 at a guess maybe 1999. irrelevant? perhaps, but just goes to show how long it's stayed with me.

I was a lodger at some couple's home during University and one night I had this awful dream where I woke up. I didn't move because I felt someone was behind me. My eyes were open, but I dared not move an inch. Then someone grabbed my shoulder from behind and in a whispering kind of growl a voice said "I'm still here!" Doesn't sound too bad does it? Only i woke up again to have it happen again, and then again for a third time. When I awoke after that, again in exactly the same position as before I got a sense that somehow this was now real. But after waking up 3 times previous to a horrible end I still did not want to move or turn to meet an unsavory character. My aim was to fool whatever it was into thinking I was asleep. So I stayed as still as possible scared out of my wits until I did actually fall back asleep.

I thought after that maybe it was the spirit of some previous lodger, but I never mentioned it to the landlady. Probably for the best.

Thats a great description of Old Hag. People often forget to explain the way the visual aspects of Old Hag work. Its not just random hallucinations, or dreams overlapping reality. I'm sure I won't explain this right, but maybe it will encourage someone who knows more about this to correct me

Basically, you have a blind spot in your vision. It is always there. You can test it by focusing on an object, then bringing your fingers in from the sides of your vision to the center. Don't focus on your fingers, just see them move while keeping focused on one spot. You will see your fingers disappear when they reach a point around the center of your field of vision.

In normal life, your brain fills in this blind spot with what it assumes to be there. This happens automatically, based on the surrounding context, short term memory of what you just saw, since your eyes are always moving. When you are sleeping, your brain does not have any context to use to fill in your blind spot. Your brain still wants to fill in this blind spot, because it is programmed to. So, basically, it fills the blind spot in with dream imagery. This can happen when you are awake in a totally dark room also, and focus on one single spot for too long. Your thoughts start to appear in your blind spot.

The fixed position of your blind spot in relation to your vision explains why hallucinations of this kind are often out of scale with their environment, change in size, have a lack of depth perception, bob around, ect. Its like when you have an afterimage burned into your vision. It follows where your eyes move, and your brain can't make sense of its positon in space.

Its called Charles Bonnet Syndrome. It commonly occurs when your eyes are receiving a lack of information. Your brain fills in the gaps.

Everyone posting in this thread should read this article. You won't be sorry.

wow some interesting stuff in this thread!
My diagnosis is sleep paralysis or just a false awakening. The fact that u move sometimes could mean its a dream or just that u think you are moving.
