Guitarists, Read This!

hey people,
i was reading that some people used lucid dreaming to improve their skills in real life, like they practiced karate in their lucid dreams and improved their karate in real life. well get this. i tried this but with my guitar. i'm pretty sure all you guitarists would like to play insane solos like, for example, dragonforce's through the fire and flames or another hard solo. well, i have been trying to practice in lucids for ages but only recently got back into trying to practice guitar. anyway, i willed it, and there i was. me, herman li , jimi hendrix and my gibson SG. herman li said "play through the fire and the flames, jack." and i played it perfectly. the next day, pulled the tabs up off the internet and started playing. although i had the tabs, it felt like i had played it before and i made less mistakes and found that i was anticipating what frets to strum, as if i was playing through force of habit. you should really give it a try, i know know dragonforce the intro off by heart already.

Wow that's interesting, as a guitarist myself I'm constantly seeking to broaden my musical/practical skills and this sounds like a VERY creative way to do it.

its very good. hopefully i will be able to...hone, shall we say, this skill. it will come in handy for revision.

Actually, this is one of the first things I'm gonna try when I get a couple of full lucids. Wondered if it works, and apparently it does :)

Sounds cool i need to start playing again so maybe it will help if i use playing guitar as a reality check and start playing a while each day

Oh god this reminds me on a dream I had a while ago, I played this INSANE guitar solo that If i could have recorded it would make millions. Best thing Ive ever heard.

wow that's really interesting. i've played my guitar in a lucid dream before but nothing really happened with it when i woke up. maybe it doesn't really work for creating songs, but I guess with learning songs that already exist it could be of use to us! sweet...

now what song do I want to learn to play...

I know somebody who will love to try this.. I use to take back with me the riff I heard there but nothing about playing there.

I doubt Lucid Dreaming can familiarise you with a solo before you learn it? If you hear it in your dream, then you already know the song. Nothing beats real life practice. Although, Im sure its fun to play in dreams.

ps. why you learning Dragon Force? lol

because if you master that solo then holy crap you're a fast player all of a sudden. instant talent.

I had never thought of trying this before, but if it works - then how cool!
I am presently trying to learn to solo, so I could use all the extra help I could get. Oh, and I love who your instructors were! Why not have the best, eh? ;)

That's really cool. I have read many times how lucid dreaming is used to help people progress different skills as well. I think i read it in LaBerge's book "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming"

I should try that when I get more proficient at this. I really enjoy playing the guitar... but I'm not as good as I am with other instruments, regardless of practice.

i did do art in my dream once which helped me with my real life final piece which was pretty cool, but i wuda preferred guitar or skiing

i had an insanely inspirational dream where i played a guitar solo to this song my brothers old band played. i couldnt hear myself play but i knew i was doing good.

I am so doing this next time im lucid.

I'll try taking on some Belphegor and Lamb Of God whilst im there.

i must do this and find paul gilbert...

Nice... I could never do that, not even in my dreams. =P I'm all thumbs.

I find that art, especially painting, is easier to do after dreaming. Especially if I'm trying to find inspiration; as long as your dream recall is decent, you can come up with some pretty amazing things! =D

I would dream-ski, but I don't think it would go so well.
