The best thing to do (as stated) is make a resolve to Stay Calm once you become lucid.
Usually, if I have the patience, I will stop everything I'm doing (upon realization that I'm dreaming) and just take some time to focus. I'll look at my hands to sort of "ground" myself into the dream, or touch some of the texture around me, which does the same thing. In my experience, my lucids last much longer when I do that. Even if I've been lucid for a long time, and I start to feel the dream unraveling, I'll stare at my hands and concentrate on bringing things back in focus. When I look away from them, everything is clear, and I end up staying in the dream for much longer. Try it out, sometime. :cooler:
