Why can't I fly?

If anyone can tell me, I would really like advice on how to fly in my dreams?

I've always been able to control my dreams (Lucid dreaming) and can do anything else other than fly.

For example : I was on the top of a high building, with two of my friends standing beside me. I'd been lucid for a while up to that point and knew it would be easier and quicker to just fly to the ground instead of taking the stairs.
The only problem is when I jump off, I fall, not fly.

It's happened a few times to me now, and it's starting to wind me up.
Surely I should be able to do anything?
If for example I can blow buildings away with a simple thought, why can't I fly?

Any help? All views welcome.

Well in the few lucid dreams I've had there's been no problem flying at all. I was able to do in from my very first lucid dream. I don't know if you've ever tried this, but in the dream, have you ever thought to yourself before flying that it's going to be as easy as anything? That you are able to do whatever you want in your own world. Normally it is quite important that you tell yourself things like this to make it all a bit easier:)

Yes I've tried telling myself that.
I don't understand, I can do everything else exactly how I want it, but the one thing that nearly all can do, I can't.

I have one simple question:

What do you think when trying to fly?

You need a more positive outlook. Don't tell yourself you can't fly. Just think that you haven't flown yet, but you will next time.

I think its because your being bound by what a normal human can and cant do in the real world, so if your thinking "it probably wont work ill just fall" then you will fall, but if you get past the thought that its impossible and start thinking anything can happen since its your own world, then you'd be able to do it. Also dont think about falling just try thinking about rising up.

Take some time during the day and imagine yourself flying. You don't have to believe that there is no gravity. All you need to do is believing that you have the ability to fly, which you do have for sure. There is no point in thinking that you don't possess the ability. You just might not know how to use it by now, but imagination will help you for sure

I could fly easily at my first lucid dream. I did it superman-style and when I decided to fly, I just did it. Maybe you shouldn't think too much how you can fly. Just do it.

In my experience, you have to be very confident about it.

Here's what happened this morning. I woke up around 6 and attempted a WILD, which I have yet to do. After (STUPIDLY!) shaking out of it to check the time, I tried again but to no avail. So, I then said to myself, "Why don't I go with what worked for me before?" and did a MILD instead. I got lucid in the dream, quickly at that.

Sometime in the dream, I began to float up in the air, over the fence in the backyard. As I floated, little dogs from around the neighborhood started gathering around and started barking below me. I was getting ticked off by this, so I considered blasting them away but the dog lover in me wouldn't permit it even in a dream. I left them go but did float low enough for them to be within biting range. I didn't get bit, though.

I continued floating in the air, but moving. Kind of like flying slowly. I eventually reached a BEAUTIFUL city park and landed there. Lots of people and I even remember this nice bridge. I took a look around and told myself "God, I sure hope I don't..." and then suddenly everything faded. (Ever do that?)

When everything came back to light, I was in the backyard again and I thought I woke up. I had a false awakening. For some reason, though, I tried to float again but couldn't. I jumped high but fell down. I even crashed down into barbed wire going across the fence (luckily for me, it was wrapped in some kind of plastic!) before hitting the ground. I did a reality check, first by looking at my nose. It was still there, but I succeeded in breathing through my fingers next. But for some reason, I still doubted I was dreaming and didn't get to fly again.

Point: If you want to do something in your dreams, you have to believe you could. Try floating first. I have yet to do high speed flying but floating like a balloon somewhere was kinda fun.

Flying is the second thing ive ever did in my first LD and that is how i
always travel in them. I can fly through walls as well, but sometimes, very
rarely tho.....i bump my head against the wall and cant get through........
Mind Block....Bad LD!! :?

Why not try and grow you some nice wings and then just fly away
to somewhere cool!! Its all up to you to bust down your mind block!!
or flap your arms like a bird next time...that should help, or carry two
handy fans around in your pocket to pull out to use to flap with. :)

Also try this...like mini suggested. Lie on the ground on your back and look
up into the sky. Tell yourself you want to go up there and start to levitate
your body slowly up there (always staying horizontal) If you succeed in
doing this, once youre up high enough for your liking, straighten up and
fly....dont think about it, just take off!! :boogie:

I completely understand how hard this can be tho since i have never ever
in 22 years been able to talk in my LDs! Whenever i try to, my real mouth
talks and the words always wakes me right up! :? Also sometimes i am
blind in a LD and then i can sometimes overcome that, but sometimes no
matter what i do...i cant see! Someone here gave me a great idea to try for
that the next time i go blind in a LD tho, but i havent heard any good
ideas for the talking thing yet tho. I could never scream for more lucidity
because ill wake up. :?

Whenever I want to fly I grow myself big white angel wings and just jump.

well i cant fly in my dreams but some of my DCs can. I just made like a Semi-flight thing by just jumping miles into the air allowing me to leap cities and such. if u ask me i think its more fun :p
