      Leap of Faith

I had my fifth ever Lucid Dream last night; probably my second longest...

It was pure luck [although I diligently practice WBTB most nights] that I got lucid. Essentially someone brought me a cup of tea in the morning but I knew that person couldn't possibly be there as they were on holiday this weekend. One reality check later and I knew I was dreaming.

It's funny how things appeared to move a lot quicker in Lucids vs Reality, for example the DC who brought me the tea was nowhere to be seen within literally seconds of producing it [I did try it BTW and it tasted not dissimilar to a real cuppa!], I also was standing without really being conscious of getting out of bed.

I remembered something I had read on these forums where to improve lucidity you should spin around and/or vocalise your wish to be more lucid. I shouted [in an oddly strained version of my own voice] "Lucidity now!"; maybe it helped because I felt this dream was longer compared to the snippets of Lucidity I've had since my first.

I tried the light switch on my room. It did not work. I wonder if that was because I was expecting it not to work [the whole electrical devices not working in dreams thing] or just another Lucid quirk.

On the way out I vocalised the name of a DC I would be interested in meeting. Nothing.

I went into the bedroom next door to mine; getting there was something of a blur although I remember it was lighter than my own very dark room. Then I decided to open the windows in this bedroom. I pulled myself up onto the window ledge and looked out. It was raining heavily outside and I could feel the rain and wind on my face. Quite refreshing but not cold.

In hindsight I should have realised that the scene below me bore no relation to what I would expect to find if looking out this particular window. It was an urban setting with buildings, cars driving along with headlights on etc. The view should have been of a river, a field and a bridge; a country setting. The height was wrong as well, at least one or two storeys higher than normal.

If I had realised that then maybe it would have been the factor that would have pushed me over the edge...

...Quite literally as it happened. I was thinking (even before the Lucid) that if I jumped out a possibly fatal distance to the ground below (in a dream obviously!) I might be able to jump-start my Lucid experience outside of the realistic setting and experience that have been the mainstay of my Lucid Dreaming to date. Hopefully this would have been into the fantastical, flying/scene shifting etc. Someone mentioned on these forums that if you can do something "dramatic" like this it can be a real help.

Problem was - I couldn't quite bring myself to take the leap of faith that was required to plunge out of the window of a three or four storey building, lucid or otherwise...

As I was pondering...The scene shifted dramatically and I found myself in a very well lit office with DCs [some of whom I knew from RL] wandering around. This segment of the Lucid felt like it was on-rails, like I was half or quarter-Lucid. I wonder if this was when I went back into a standard dream but was left with a little bit of lucid awareness. Someone mentioned the DC I had earlier vocalised but I must have drifted back to consciousness before they could arrive...

So...What do you think? Has anyone else found themselves in a Leap of Faith scenario??? Could taking the plunge help me escape from the lucid version of my home and awaken more lucid 'powers'?

I was always pondering that. If you jump off a cliff in a Lucid Dream, will it still hurt? I have heard stories of people experiencing pain in their dreams. I don't think I would be able to bring myself to jump, even if I was one hundred percent sure I was dreaming. There are some other things you can do to enhance the dream, too. Try picking an object, really observe it. What does it look like, how heavy is it? What does it feel like when you rub it? Does it have a smell? Using your senses in dreams is a good way to make everything more real and clear.

I would have put my hand out and felt what it felt like to get wet in a dream
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, fondness makes the absence longer.

True. The possibility of a painful conclusion to the fall is a reason not to jump...

But then again worth a go to see what actually happens when (and if) you hit the ground without waking up or some lucid trigger occurs and you either found yourself in another scene or my preference stop yourself from falling by flying away.

I'll certainly try that item idea you mentioned when I am next lucid.
